- Stoke have lost just two of their last 13 meetings with Huddersfield, winning 3-0 in this fixture last term
- Both teams to score has been a winning bet in four of Huddersfield’s last six away games
- Recommended bet:
Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals

While a run of three wins from five games has opened up a bit of a gap between Stoke and the relegation zone, they are nowhere near safe yet and their trip to Huddersfield on Monday still represents a six-pointer.

There are just five points between the 17th-placed Potters and the Terriers in 22nd as an extremely tight Championship relegation battle looks set to go down to the wire.

Both sides will be desperate for the points and an exciting clash could unfold at the bet365 Stadium as a result.

Team news

Stoke’s Ben Pearson and Lynden Gooch are both out with hamstring injuries while the game has also come too soon for Junior Tchamadeu.

Wouter Burger is back from suspension but may struggle to get back into the starting XI after the Potters’ impressive win over Hull on Good Friday.

Defender Radinio Balker has joined Oliver Turton, Tom Lees, Yuta Nakayama and Josh Ruffels on the Huddersfield sidelines, leaving the club in a defensive crisis which is made worse by the fact Tom Edwards is ineligible to face his parent club.

Further up the field the news is better for the Terriers as Sorba Thomas is back from suspension although Kian Harratt is still serving a ban.

The stats

Stoke have lost just two of their last 13 meetings with Huddersfield, winning 3-0 in this fixture last term.

The Terriers, on a five-match winless run, have lost on their last three visits to the bet365 Stadium.

The Potters have won three of their last five matches, only losing to title-chasing Leeds and in-form Noriwch in that run.

Both teams to score has been a winning bet in four of Huddersfield’s last six away games.

Both teams have found the net in seven of the last eight meetings between this pair.

Prediction

With so much on the line for both sides this could easily turn into a tetchy affair, but with desperation likely to take over it seems likelier that an open game could unfold in Staffordshire.

History suggests that will be the case too, with seven of the last eight meetings between the pair seeing both sides find the net and six of the last eight clashes going over 2.5 goals.

A combination of both bets looks worth backing on Monday given four of Huddersfield’s last six away games have seen each side find the net and four of Stoke’s last seven home matches have gone over 2.5 goals.

Slight preference is for the hosts, given their run of three wins from five and the Terriers’ ongoing five-game winless streak, but anything can happen in a six-pointer and backing a glut of goals could prove the safer play.

The return of Thomas in attack should boost the visitors’ scoring chances, but their lack of recognised defenders may leave them exposed, furthermore highlighting the potential profit available in backing an exciting clash in Stoke on Easter Monday.
