- Southampton have won their last nine Championship home games
- Both teams have scored in seven of Hull’s last nine away league matches
- Recommended bet: Southampton to win and both teams to score

Southampton can go back to second in the Championship if they can record a 10th successive Championship home win on Tuesday, but opponents Hull will be hopeful they can enhance their play-off claims.

The Tigers have won their last three second-tier away matches and have their eyes firmly fixed on gaining a top-six spot this season, with only goal difference keeping them out of that select group.

Team news

The Saints will be without injured on-loan West ham midfielder Flynn Downes, while James Bree is still nursing a hamstring injury.

The Tigers are without Liam Delap, who has a knee problem, while Tyler Morton is struggling with the knock he picked up in the 2-1 win at Huddersfield on Saturday.

The stats

Southampton have won their last nine home league games.

Hull have won their last three away Championship matches.

There have been at least three goals in four of Southampton’s last six league games at St Mary’s.

No team in the Championship have averaged more home corners than the Saints’ 7.87 per game.

Southampton striker Adam Armstrong has scored 16 goals and provided 11 assists this season.

Both teams have scored in seven of Hull’s last nine Championship away outings.

Prediction

Southampton are doing a great job in putting themselves in the picture for an immediate return to the Premier League and they will go back into the top two if they gain a win over Hull.

The Saints have won their last nine league games at St Mary’s but manager Russell Martin knows his team are unable to ease up in what is their game in hand over second-in-the-table Leeds.

The Yorkshire outfit have not been letting up and went back into the promotion places with their win over Plymouth on Saturday after Southampton had posted an impressive 2-0 win at West Brom the night before.

However, while the Saints have won 10 of their last 11 league games on their own patch, they should not take Hull lightly and it would not be a surprise if the visitors found their way on the scoresheet.

Liam Rosenior’s side have earned victories at Sunderland, Rotherham and Huddersfield in their last three league away matches and while this looks a tougher trip than all of those, confidence is not going to be an issue for the Tigers.

They have given themselves a great shout in what is a typically congested Championship play-off picture – they are outside the top-six spots on goal difference – and while a win at St Mary’s may prove beyond them, they are capable of scoring.
