- Sheffield United have lost 11 of 14 Premier League fixtures this season
- Recommended bet: Liverpool and under 3.5 goals

Sheffield United need to pick themselves up a matter of days after their 5-0 reverse at Burnley and they will be looking for a response when taking on Liverpool at Bramall Lane.

The Blades are propping up the table with five points from 14 games and their weekend loss at Turf Moor was enough to persuade the board of a need to change direction.

While the south Yorkshire strugglers are short of confidence, Liverpool should be buzzing after their late heroics in Sunday’s 4-3 success at home to Fulham.

The Reds were trailing the Cottagers 3-2 until late strikes from Wataru Endo and Trent Alexander-Arnold turned the contest in their favour.

Team news

Oli McBurnie serves a one-match ban after his weekend red card, while George Baldock (thigh) has joined the injured list.

Chris Basham, John Egan (both ankle), Rhys Norrington-Davies, Tom Davies, Rhian Brewster (all thigh) and Daniel Jebbison (illness) remain unavailable.

Reds centre-back Joel Matip (knee) was injured in Sunday’s 4-3 victory at home to Fulham and looks set for a spell on the sidelines. Ibrahima Konate replaced the Cameroonian at the weekend and should step into the starting line-up.

Matip joins a crowded treatment room featuring Thiago Alcantara (groin), Andy Robertson (shoulder), Diogo Jota (muscle strain), Alisson (thigh) and Stefan Bajcetic (calf).

The stats

Sheffield United have lost 11 of their 14 Premier League games this season and have not kept a clean sheet, shipping two goals or more in 11 of their 14 fixtures.

United are the division’s lowest scorers but they have netted in five of their last six home games.

Liverpool are unbeaten in seven Premier League games since their controversial 2-1 loss at Tottenham in September.

The Reds have scored three goals or more in three of their last four fixtures, but they have conceded the opening goal in each of their last three away games.

Seven of Liverpool’s last ten away Premier League games have featured less than three goals.

Prediction

Liverpool needed a frantic finish to get the better of Fulham on Sunday, but they are likely to exert more control when taking on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The Reds have kept three clean sheets in their last six Premier League games and solid defence can pave the way to success over the division’s basement boys.

Top-flight survival already looks a long shot for Sheffield United, but their immediate priority will be to show some more fight and resilience after their 5-0 humbling at Turf Moor.

They have had some decent performances against strong teams, suffering narrow 2-1 losses at home to Manchester City and Manchester United and also away to Tottenham.

The Blades should improve on their weekend performance, but they may struggle to avoid a low-scoring loss.
