Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid won all three away games in the group stage before Christmas

- RB Leipzig failed to keep a clean sheet in all of their group-stage games
- Real Madrid thrashed Girona 4-0 on Saturday to extend their La Liga lead
- Recommended bet: Real Madrid to win

Real Madrid have barely put a foot wrong this season and, brimming with confidence, will be hoping to take a giant stride towards the Champions League quarter-finals by winning in Leipzig.

RB Leipzig have been blowing more cold than hot on their return from the German winter break but will have fond memories of beating Real 3-2 at home during last season’s competition.

Marco Rose’s free-scoring outfit are 2/1 with LiveScore Bet to repeat that feat with mighty Real 23/20 to be taking a lead back to the Bernabeu for the return leg next month.

Team news

Leizpig have no injury worries which means Rose can field his trademark 4-4-2 set-up with Benjamin Sesko and Lois Openda supported by wide men Xavi Simons and fit-again Dani Olmo.

Jude Bellingham, La Liga’s 16-goal top scorer, misses out after turning his ankle during Saturday’s 4-0 win over Girona.

Antonio Rudiger is training again after a lay-off but won’t be risked and fellow centre-backs Eder Militao and David Alaba are also sidelined. Nacho Fernandez is fit, however, so should slot in alongside Aurelien Tchouameni with Dani Carvajal restored at right-back.

Luka Modric will come in for Bellingham off the front two of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo.

The stats

Leipzig scored - and conceded - in all six of their group-stage games. Their games produced 23 goals.

Their 27 league and European games this term have produced 97 goals at 3.5 per match.

Marco Rose’s German powers have kept one clean sheet in their last 16 matches and have won only one of their last six competitive matches.

La Liga leaders Real Madrid won all six of their fixtures in the group stage.

The Spanish side have not lost inside 90 minutes in any of their last 27 matches.

Prediction

Real Madrid gave themselves the perfect confidence booster heading back into Champions League combat by crushing nearest challengers Girona 4-0 on Saturday night to ease five points clear in La Liga.

It came at a cost with Jude Bellingham picking up an injury which sidelines him in Leipzig, but confidence is surging through the Real camp and they have more than enough quality throughout the camp to land the odds at the Red Bull Arena.

Leipzig are in a sticky patch at the moment with just one win in five since returning from the winter break to drop out of the top four.

They have the firepower to trouble anyone but they cannot keep a clean sheet for love nor money and against a club as seasoned as Carlo Ancelotti’s Real that spells real trouble.
