Rachel Daly earns Aston Villa point against Leicester

Leicester put a turbulent off-field week behind them to claim a 2-2 draw at Aston Villa in the Women’s Super League.

The Foxes headed into Saturday’s fixture at Bescot Stadium just 48 hours after Willie Kirk was sacked as manager after he was deemed to have “breached the team’s code of conduct”.

The visitors fells behind when Adriana Leon opened the scoring for Villa midway through the opening period before Yuka Momiki hauled Leicester level.

Leicester then took the lead shortly before the hour mark through Sam Tierney, but Rachel Daly ensured the two teams shared a point with her equaliser 15 minutes from time.

With Kirk removed from his post after Leicester said his position was “untenable”, Jennifer Foster and Stephen Kirby took charge of the crisis-hit team.

The duo have overseen Leicester’s last three games and they will remain in charge until a permanent successor to Kirk is found.

Leicester appeared set for a difficult afternoon when Kenza Dali picked out Leon at the back post to score the opener with 25 minutes gone.

However, Leicester were level four minutes later when Momiki struck before Jutta Rantala came close to putting her side ahead, only to see her effort rebound off the woodwork.

Leicester were quick off the mark after the interval and they took a deserved lead when Tierney headed home Momiki’s free-kick with 56 minutes on the clock.

But the Foxes’ lead lasted less than 20 minutes as Jordan Nobbs played through Daly, who made no mistake from close range.

Villa goalkeeper Anna Leat almost gave away a cheap winner after she scrambled away what should have been a routine save from Saori Takarada.

But the hosts saw out the draw, with the point leaving Villa and Leicester seventh and eighth respectively in the table with four games remaining.
