Howe on replacement rumours

Eddie Howe has addressed reports suggesting he could be sacked by Newcastle and replaced by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann.

The 46-year-old was speaking ahead of the Magpies' match against Wolves tomorrow, with his side having only taken 11 points from their last 12 Premier League games.

Howe said: "Genuinely it doesn't affect me. I am sat in the seat and my future will be defined by what I do. Nobody else.

"It is up to me to continually prove [myself]. But I back myself and my abilities and I know my qualities.

"I know what I try to bring to the job and I have ambitions for the team and the club.

"I can't control what you guys write or what speculation there is and I don't try to get involved in it."

Ange Postecoglou has revealed Richarlison and Pedro Porro will miss Tottenham's clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Porro was also absent for the defeat to Wolves a fortnight ago but his team-mate's knock has come out of the blue.

He said: "Destiny (Udogie) has trained but Pedro [Porro] is probably a week away.

"Richarlison is out for three to four weeks. He picked up a knee injury last game and Sess [Ryan Sessegnon] is out, so still down a couple of numbers.

"Richy is disappointed because he's been a key contributor but that has been how our season has gone.

"With Sess, it is a tough one. He has worked hard to come back and it is always more challenging when it happens as a series of events."

Richarlison has been in fine form for Tottenham, scoring nine goals in his last ten Premier League games.

Mauricio Pochettino has given some insight into how his Chelsea team reacted to their 1-0 loss in the Carabao Cup final to Liverpool.

He said: "We met after the game in a different place than Wembley and the players started to feel.

"In some points they were disappointed and it was painful but by Tuesday and Wednesday they were ready and wanted to play. That speaks very highly about our squad and our players."

Speaking ahead of Chelsea's Premier League match against Brentford, Pochettino spoke about what he has learned about his squad, following the defeat.

He said: "What we've learned from them is that they are learning. They are learning to compete all together, see other, feel each other and know how they behave in these moments.

"After seven or eight months we already know the profile of the players but it's important for them to know each other, especially in these high pressure moments."

Emery talks travelling

Unai Emery is encouraged by Aston Villa's improving away form ahead of their trip to Luton on Saturday.

The Villans now have the fifth-best travelling record in the division, despite their home form seemingly propping up their efforts in the first half of the campaign.

Emery said: "It is about being consistent and it is very difficult to give the same performance home and away.

"We are being successful at home even though we lost to Man United and Newcastle recently.

"We are trying to be demanding being competitive, being demanding in our preparation and being consistent tactically at home and away. The opponent are demanding different tactical ways.

"Tomorrow is the same. I don't remember playing a team who aren’t very demanding."

Jurgen Klopp has spoken about the relationship between his senior and youth players

Jurgen Klopp has praised his senior players for their role in the development of Liverpool's current crop of youngsters.

A number of teenage talents featured in both the Carabao Cup final win last weekend and the midweek FA Cup fifth round victory against Southampton.

Klopp said: "I felt the joy and the pride after the game, it's wonderful to see.

"It's a full squad achievement. We all agree if we put just the young boys on the pitch they are wonderful players but they have no chance.

"They need to be guided and led. I congratulated the senior players after the game [against Southampton] because the first half was frustrating.

"The senior players really enjoyed having them around."

Pep talks up United quality

Pep Guardiola is not underestimating the task ahead for his Manchester City side, as they prepare for Sunday's match against Manchester United.

The Catalan coach was asked if the derby had lost importance due to the decline of the Red Devils.

Guardiola said: "They were good with Jose [Mourinho], with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, fighting, they were there.

"They went to Luton and beat them, Wolves and beat them, Aston Villa to go and win a few weeks ago. They have the biggest quality.

"From one action they create something special with set-pieces, transitions. Always have been demanding, when they play good, they will win. In 2024 they lost just one game, the consistency is there.

"We have to prepare tactically to get three points."
