Paddy McCarthy was proud to see Crystal Palace pick up a point at Everton to end a turbulent day in which Oliver Glasner succeeded Roy Hodgson as manager.

With Glasner's appointment confirmed just hours before kick-off, Palace's players would have been forgiven for not knowing whether they were coming or going.

But as the Austrian, 49, watched from the stands at Goodison Park, Hodgson's trusted assistants McCarthy and Ray Lewington took charge as the visitors were denied maximum points late on when sub Amadou Onana cancelled out Andre Ayew's opener.

Speaking to Sky Sports, McCarthy said: "It was a wonderful goal by Jordan but we couldn't hold on.

"We knew Everton would hold us to some questions from set-pieces and I'm disappointed we conceded. Ultimately, however, we are happy with the point and we move on."

Palace remain five points clear of the Premier League drop zone and Glasner will have plenty of food for thought before taking to the dugout for the visit of Burnley on Saturday.

But 40-year-old McCarthy, who has yet to learn whether he will be kept on, believes the players the new boss is inheriting have what it takes to kick on.

He said: "There's lots of quality and he's coming into a squad with a lot of character.

"He will have seen lots of positives and I'm sure he cannot wait to work with them.

"I'm sure they were aware he was watching. The players are professional and they deserve a lot of credit.

"I'm sure he will enjoy working with this great group of lads."

Commenting on his own future, McCarthy added: "Listen, it has been full focus on preparing for the game and I have not had any conversation with the hierarchy on my position.

"I am sure that will become clear in the next couple of days."
