Hat-trick hero Ivan Toney wheels away in celebration after his first goal at Norwich

Ivan Toney scored a hat-trick as Brentford eased past fellow strugglers Norwich 3-1 at Carrow Road.

Christian Eriksen made his first start for the visitors and was involved in their opener as Kristoffer Ajer flicked his corner on for Toney to tap home.

Toney then bagged his and Brentford's second goal from the penalty spot after 52 minutes when Ben Gibson was penalised for a high foot.

Thomas Frank's side put the game out of sight just six minutes later. Toney again dispatched from the spot after Gibson brought the striker down in the box.

Norwich scored a consolation goal in added time via Teemu Pukki but it was too late for a comeback.

The Canaries remain rooted to the bottom of the table and manager Dean Smith was unhappy with his side's showing.

He said: "I'm really disappointed with the result and really disappointed with the official's performances as well.

"I was really pleased with our first-half performance. I thought we were the better team and probably deserved to be in the lead but the set-piece undone us.

"I don't feel like I've been out-footballed or we've been outplayed but we've lost a game that was massive for us. I'm disappointed with the outcome."

Bees boss Frank was impressed with Eriksen who was making his first competitive start since joining the West Londoners.

He said: "We needed to build Christian right so we knew that he needed those three weeks training with the team.

"We knew he'd go close to playing 90 [minutes] soon. It'll take him a few more games before he's up to the top standards he'll provide.

"But the delivery for the first goal and the five balls in behind, you can just see he's got that extra magic, so no doubt that he will help us."
