Watford came out on top in a battle of the newly-promoted sides — leaving Norwich rooted at the foot of the table.

The Hornets took the lead within the first 20 minutes via a header from new signing Emmanuel Dennis but Daniel Farke's side levelled the scores through a Teemu Pukki strike.

The visitors put the game out of sight in the second half, however, when Ismaila Sarr scored a brace to send his side into the top half.

Canaries manager Farke expressed his disappointment at the end of the game. He said: "If you provide mistakes at this level, you will get punished.

"We've conceded too many goals, there was too many mistakes, we had the better chances to lead.

"We have got to be self-critical, we can't give goals away. The first point is to be self-critical in order to improve."

Norwich are just the fifth team to lose each of their first five matches in a Premier League campaign, after Southampton in 1998-99 (survived), Sunderland in 2005-06 (relegated), Portsmouth in 2009-10 (relegated) and Crystal Palace in 2017-18 (survived).

Watford enjoyed an away Premier League win for the first time in 11 games (D1 L9), netting as many goals against Norwich as they managed in their previous eight on the road in the top-flight.

Norwich have lost each of their last 15 Premier League games under Farke, the longest losing run by any side in English top-flight history under a single manager.

Dennis is only the second player to score both Watford's first home goal and first away goal in a Premier League season.

Norwich striker  Pukki ended a run of four league appearances against Watford without scoring, with the Hornets becoming the 35th club the Finn has found the net against in English league football.

Since his Watford debut in August 2019, Sarr has scored 21 league goals for the Hornets, more than any other player for the club in that time.
