Brentford forward Neal Maupay bagged his first goal in over a year in the Premier League win over West Ham on Saturday.

The 27-year-old — on loan from Everton — ended a 35-match drought that stretched back to September 2022, when he also scored against the Hammers.

And the Frenchman was full of relief after the game after helping the West Londoners overcome David Moyes' side.

He said: "I didn't know what to do.

"It's been a long time since I scored a goal, so I didn't know how to act.

"It was good to get back on the scoresheet — my first goal back here and my family were in the stand.

"It means a lot. I love the fans, I love my team-mates and I love the club — I love everyone here.

"Last season I didn't play much, I had a very tough time, so I'm happy to be back here in a good environment. I enjoy being here.

"The people here at this club are amazing, but I knew that already.

"To be part of Brentford's history in the Premier League is what it's about for me."

Maupay has made eight top-flight appearances in 2023-24 and is now on a run of three consecutive games of either scoring or assisting.

Brentford had a slow start to the campaign but Thomas Frank has his men ticking again and they sit comfortably in the top half of the table, just two points off high-flying Brighton in seventh.
