Millwall boss Gary Rowett will hope to steer his side over line in the race for the playoffs

- Playoff-chasing Millwall have lost only five of their 22 home league games this term
- Blackburn are without a win in eight Championship clashes
- Recommended bet: Millwall to win

Millwall know a victory will guarantee themselves a place in the Championship playoffs, but Blackburn will be determined to spoil the party at The Den.

Not only that, but Rovers still have an outside chance of leapfrogging Millwall into the top six, although a negative goal difference means Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side must win while also hoping Sunderland and West Brom both fail to do so.

Given Sunderland face a tricky trip to Preston and West Brom head to an in-form Swansea, that situation is entirely plausible, and a must-win contest could contribute to an entertaining affair.

Both teams have faltered under the pressure. Millwall have won only twice in their last eight attempts while Blackburn have gone on an eight-game winless run, but something must give in southeast London.

Team news

Millwall remain without injured trio Charlie Cresswell, George Honeyman and Murray Wallace, but the rest of Gary Rowett’s squad are ready and available for the final day of the Championship campaign.

Rovers, meanwhile, have injuries in forward areas to contend with as Sam Gallagher is likely to miss out, and Jack Vale is still sidelined. Samuel Barnes, John Buckley and Clinton Mola are also missing for the visitors.

The stats

Both Millwall and Blackburn have seen their form tail off as the season reaches the business end, yet each have a final chance to book their ticket in the Championship playoffs.

Millwall have lost three of their last five league games but remain in pole position for a top-six berth after last Friday’s thrilling 3-2 win at relegated Blackpool.

The Lions have had ten days to prepare for this match, three days longer than visitors Blackburn, and home advantage ought to be a huge aid to them.

Rowett’s side have lost only five of their 22 league games at The Den, and they have done well when entertaining the division’s leading lights, beating promoted Sheffield United and fourth-placed Middlesbrough and drawing with third-placed Luton and champions Burnley.

Blackburn, on the other hand, have struggled on their travels, collecting only 23 of their 66 points away from Ewood Park.

Rovers have won only one of their ten league games since the beginning of March, and they inherit a -3 goal difference because they have scored only 48 goals, which is worsened only by Preston in the current top 16.

Prediction

With an electric atmosphere expected at The Den, Millwall can claim the victory they require to ensure they finish the season in the playoffs.

The Lions have tried their hardest to undo all their early-season hard work by dropping points in six of their last eight games, but Blackburn are on a bigger dip and have failed to win any of their previous eight.

Millwall got their top-six aspirations back on track with victory at Blackpool last time out, and, on the whole, they have been a team that have fared better against stronger opposition.

It is sure to be a nervy occasion, but Millwall have their own fate in their own hands and, if keeping their cool, should have the beating of a poor-travelling Blackburn side that have failed to win in 11 of their last 13 away league games.
