Lyon's Ligue 1 match with Marseille has been abandoned after the team's bus was attacked.

Manager Fabio Grosso suffered a head injury after the bus reportedly came under attack by fans reportedly throwing projectiles as it made its way to the Stade Velodrome.

According to widespread reports, former Italy international Grosso was hit by falling shards of glass and needed medical treatment with his face heavily bleeding.

Marseille president Pablo Longoria said to Prime Video Sport: "It's unacceptable.

"I say sincerely, we have to prevent what happened to Fabio Grosso — it’s completely unacceptable. It is something that cannot happen in football.

"They’re just reckless idiots. Spoiling a party, in a stadium with 65,000 because of recklessness. I am angry. Especially because it has no place in football, or in society.”

The clash between bottom-side Lyon and 10th-placed Marseille was due to kick off at 7.45pm GMT on Sunday.

Fans were already in the stadium when the announcement was made that the game had been postponed.

A statement from Marseille said: "Olympique de Marseille deplores the unacceptable incidents which took place this evening around the Stade Velodrome, against the professional team bus as well as Olympique Lyonnais supporter buses.

"The club wishes a speedy recovery to Lyon coach Fabio Grosso and strongly condemns this violent behaviour which has no place in the world of football and in society."

Lyon remain winless in Ligue 1, with the decision to replace Laurent Blanc with Grosso yet to pay off for the seven-time champions.

Marseille manager Genaro Gattuso is also under pressure at Marseille after losing three of their last four games.
