- Manchester United have won their last four meetings with Everton
- Everton have failed to win any of their last 10 Premier League matches
- Recommended bet:
Manchester United to win

Manchester United’s top-four hopes are hanging by a thread following back-to-back Premier League defeats to Fulham and fierce rivals Manchester City, and the Red Devils will be looking to respond positively against Everton.

United have 11 points to make up on fourth-placed Villa with only 11 games to go, so another setback at home to the Toffees would likely be the final straw in their quest for Champions League qualification.

Everton also have plenty to play for as they head to Old Trafford only five points clear of the relegation places.

Sean Dyche’s side have not won in the Premier League since the middle of December, a run stretching 10 top-flight matches, and they have a poor recent head-to-head record to overcome.

United are set to be without top scorer Rasmus Hojlund, with the Danish youngster joined on the sidelines by Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Marcus Rashford was pictured in training on Thursday despite limping off against City, but veteran defender Jonny Evans is a doubt after also going off early in that derby defeat.

Dele Alli and Arnaut Danjuma are still missing for the Merseysiders and Idrissa Gueye must be assessed, otherwise Dyche has a nearly full-strength squad to choose from.

The stats

Prior to losing to Fulham and Manchester City, United had won four league games in a row.

The Red Devils have won their last four meetings with Everton, which includes an emphatic 3-0 victory at Goodison Park at the end of November.

There have been at least three goals in eight of United’s last nine home league games.

Everton have failed to win any of their last 10 Premier League matches, although both teams have scored in four of their last five.

The Toffees have, however, picked up only two points in their last five away league games, failing to score on trips to Wolves, Fulham and Manchester City during that run.

Three of the last four meetings between this pair have gone over 2.5 goals.

Prediction

United were far from disgraced in their latest 3-1 defeat against City at the Etihad and, while the potential absence of top scorer Hojlund would be a blow, they can build on that by beating Everton.

The Red Devils have dominated this recent rivalry, winning the last four meetings between the pair, and they are fancied to exert that superiority given Everton’s recent struggles.

The Toffees have not won in the league since a 2-0 victory at relegation-bound Burnley in mid-December, some 10 games ago, and they were wasteful in last weekend’s 3-1 loss at home to West Ham.

Dyche’s men had won the shot count 22-12 against the Hammers but were undone by two injury-time goals in a contest where Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal drought was extended to 21 matches.

With Calvert-Lewin failing to fire, Everton are lacking firepower and they have failed to score in three of their last four away league games, which suggests they could come out second best at Old Trafford.
