Manchester City resume their pursuit of Premier League leaders Liverpool when taking on relegation-threatened Burnley at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

City are in midst of a fantastic winning run that has them hunting down Liverpool and there looks to be every chance of another victory being chalked up when 19th-place Burnley visit.

The Clarets have won just one of their last nine matches in all competitions to leave themselves five points from safety, with the possibility of an instant return to the Championship increasing with each game.

Erling Haaland and Manuel Akanji are the only injury doubts for City, who may decide to give the duo extra time to recover for the trip to Brentford on Monday.

Kevin De Bruyne could be given a first start since returning from injury, with the Belgian having made three appearances off the bench, while John Stones could also be drafted in after watching on from the bench last time out.

Burnley are without the services of Charlie Taylor, Nathan Redmond and Luca Koleosho due to injury, while Jordan Beyer, Hannes Delcroix, Sander Berge and Aaron Ramsey are all doubtful.

The stats

City have won their last seven games in all competitions, scoring 20 goals and keeping five clean sheets, while their current unbeaten streak stands at 10 matches.

The reigning Premier League champions have not lost at the Etihad Stadium since going down 2-1 to Brentford in November 2022, an incredible run of 32 games.

City have won the past 12 meetings against Burnley, with the last eight of those victories coming to nil, while the Clarets' most recent triumph against the Citizens came in March 2015.

Burnley have collected just eight points from 10 away league fixtures this season, only four teams have amassed less.

The Clarets have scored just 21 top-flight goals, only Sheffield United (17) have a worse record, while their goals against record of 42 gives them the second worst defence.

Prediction

City have been moving through the gears nicely in recent months and another routine victory looks to be on the cards when former captain Vincent Kompany brings his struggling Burnley to the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola's side were dominant in the 3-0 victory in the reverse fixture at the start of the campaign and that scoring prowess will be on show again against the Clarets, who have only kept one clean sheet away from home in the league.

There are a number of goalscoring options to choose from when combining with a City win, but Portuguese Bernardo Silva gets the nod here as he has scored two goals in his last three top-flight appearances.
