Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola will be looking for more silverware in the FA Cup

- Eight of Manchester City's last 10 home FA Cup ties featured over 3.5 goals
- Burnley lost 4-1 and 5-0 on their last two FA Cup visits to Manchester City
- Recommended bet: Manchester City to win & over 3.5 goals

Fresh from putting seven goals past RB Leipzig in the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday, Manchester City take on Burnley in an intriguing FA Cup quarter-final.

The Clarets, managed by City legend Vincent Kompany, are on course for a return to the Premier League and their only defeat in their last 23 matches in all competitions came away to Manchester United in the EFL Cup.

However, a clash with the Citizens is a real step up in class and Burnley's defenders face a serious examination against the champions' slick attacking unit.

Team news

City have no fresh injury concerns after the rout of Leipzig on Tuesday but Pep Guardiola is likely to rest several first-team regulars.

Stefan Ortega should replace Ederson in goal and Rico Lewis, Sergio Gomez, Kalvin Phillips and Julian Alvarez are also pushing for starts.

Burnley are set to be without Taylor Harwood-Bellis due to the terms of his loan deal from City, Josh Brownhill and Darko Churlinov while Manuel Benson and Jay Rodriguez are fitness doubts.

Goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell has been preferred to Arijanet Muric in the cup this season.

The stats

Manchester City have scored 28 goals in nine home games in all competitions since the World Cup.

City's Erling Haaland scored five goals in 57 minutes against Leipzig on Tuesday but Burnley's Nathan Tella is also in prolific form, with five goals in his last two Championship appearances.

Burnley have lost only three of their 44 matches in all competitions this season, against Watford, Sheffield United and Manchester United.

Eight of City's last 10 home FA Cup ties featured over 3.5 goals.

Burnley lost 4-1 and 5-0 on their last two FA Cup visits to City in 2018 and 2019.

The Clarets have scored three or more goals in 12 of their last 25 league and cup games.

Prediction

Riyad Mahrez could be set to inspire Manchester City
Riyad Mahrez could be set to inspire Manchester City

Kompany has had an extraordinary impact at Burnley, transforming their style of play and taking them to the brink of the Championship title and a swift return to the Premier League.

The Clarets can play their part in a lively contest against Manchester City but backing a City win and over 3.5 goals looks a solid bet.

Few top-flight defences are able to cope with Pep Guardiola's side, who have already eliminated Chelsea and Arsenal on their run to the last eight of the FA Cup.

The City boss is likely to rest some star players, boosting Burnley's chances of ruffling a reshuffled home defence, but his squad is in good health and attacking understudies such as Alvarez and Riyad Mahrez are top-class talents.
