It looks unlikely to be straightforward for Manchester City at Luton
It looks unlikely to be straightforward for Manchester City at Luton

- Manchester City have kept just two clean sheets in their last 13 league matches
- Five of Luton's last seven league games have featured at least three goals
- Recommended bet: Manchester City to win & both teams to score

Manchester City started the weekend in fourth spot in the Premier League after four matches without a win.

They most recently lost 1-0 at Aston Villa, while Luton are in equal need of points as they look to drag themselves away from the bottom three.

The Hatters may take heart from a good midweek performance against Arsenal when Declan Rice's late winner sank them in a 4-3 thriller.

Team news

Luton's Albert Samba Lokonga could be considered after a hamstring injury, but on-loan Issa Kabore is ineligible to play against his parent club, the same issue that also stopped Lokonga coming into contention against Arsenal.

Defender Tom Lockyer and midfielder Marvelous Nakamba could return to Rob Edwards' starting line-up.

Pep Guardiola will be able to call upon Rodri and Jack Grealish after one-match bans, but Jeremy Doku faces a late fitness test.

Kevin De Bruyne is a long-term absentee with a hamstring injury suffered on the opening weekend of the season.

The stats

The Citizens are winless in their last four Premier League matches and have kept a clean sheet in just two of their last 13 league games.

Five of Luton's last seven league games have featured at least three goals.

The Hatters have scored in six of their seven home games this season but have lost four of their last six league outings.

Prediction

Fatigue could be a factor for Rob Edwards' Luton after their midweek heartache

City will hope their four-match winless run is just a blip as they look to secure their fourth successive Premier League title and they should get back to winning ways at Luton on Sunday.

However, the Hatters have already proved they can be a difficult obstacle for the league's leading lights to conquer.

Liverpool needed a late equaliser at Kenilworth Road last month to grab a point and Arsenal only won there on Tuesday thanks to Rice's 97th-minute winner.

City will be stronger than the team that lost at Villa on Wednesday as influential Spanish midfielder Rodri returns from suspension.

With Grealish back from his own ban, they should have a more familiar shape for their trip to Bedfordshire.

However, they have conceded in 11 of their last 13 league games which should give the Hatters hope, even if the after-effects of chasing the Gunners in midweek for most of the game eventually takes its toll against another elite line-up.

So the best betting approach looks to be to back the champions to gain their first win in five league games, but with the Hatters finding the net in an entertaining encounter.
