England looking Bright

England captain Millie Bright is "ready to play" against Haiti in the Lionesses' Women's World Cup opener tomorrow, boss Sarina Wiegman has confirmed.

Chelsea defender Bright has not played competitively since March following knee surgery but is available for Saturday's clash in Brisbane.

The European champions are in Group D alongside Haiti, Denmark and China for the tournament which kicked off in Australia and New Zealand yesterday.

Wiegman said: "We are happy. This was the plan. The plan worked, so Millie is ready to play."

Bright added: "When you're surrounded by the best people, I was very confident in my recovery and I've been given everything I needed to be in this position.

"I'm very grateful I'm able to play and I'm just super excited to be here."

The 29-year-old will wear the skipper's armband Down Under, stepping in for injured Arsenal defender Leah Williamson.

Stan-ding tall

England midfielder Georgia Stanway is relishing the opportunity to become a senior member of the Lionesses squad at the Women's World Cup.

Stanway is just 24 but already has a wealth of international experience under her belt, recently collecting her 50th international cap.

And with a number of older stars retiring from England duty following their Euro 2022 triumph last summer, the Bayern Munich ace will be one of the more experienced heads out on the field.

Speaking on Lionesses: Down Under connected by EE, she said: "Although I'm still young, you automatically have that level of experience, especially with this group now having lost some of our older players.

"It's allowed some of us to be able to step up and take the responsibility.

"This year especially at Bayern I have adapted into more of a leadership role, being more confident and comfortable to be able to speak up, communicate and not be afraid of the situation."

On reaching half a century of caps in her outing against Portugal, Stanway added: "It's unbelievable.

"It has come faster than expected and all happened in a short space of time, even with Covid included I have still managed to play and represent England more times than I ever would have expected to.

"It's the greatest honour to wear the badge and getting 50 caps with my family there is a day I will never forget."

Real Madrid have released their new away kit for the 2023-24 season.

The predominantly navy jersey, designed once again by adidas, features an updated tonal graphic which symbolises infinity in a nod to the unwavering support of their fanbase.

It is complemented with the famous adidas three stripes along each sleeve in Los Blancos' official colours of gold, silver and violet.

Adidas design vice-president Sam Handy said: "Home and away, Real Madrid is a club with a huge fanbase that will follow their team anywhere, no matter where or when.

"With this season's away jersey we've encapsulated the adventurous feeling experienced when travelling to away games — something both supporters and players can identify with.

"In what is shaping up to be an exciting season for the club, we can't wait to see Madridistas from all over the world wearing the jersey during the upcoming season."

Carlo Ancelotti's side will wear their new strip for the first time against AC Milan in Los Angeles on Sunday and is available to buy HERE.

Alba joins Messi in Miami

Jordi Alba has joined former Barcelona team-mates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets at Inter Miami.

The Spain left-back, 34, has signed a contract that runs until the end of the 2024 Major League Soccer campaign, with the option to continue the following season.

Alba left the Catalan giants alongside Busquets at the end of last term, drawing the curtain on a trophy-laden 11 years at the Camp Nou.

Inter sporting director Chris Henderson said: "We know that he'll help Inter Miami achieve the club's objectives this season and beyond.

"Jordi is an accomplished, dynamic and experienced player that we're excited to acquire to continue bolstering our squad.

"He has proven for over a decade that he is one of the best full-backs in the sport due to both his defensive solidity and capacity to contribute in the attack."

Setting the standard

Chelsea defender Travoh Chalobah is determined to drive standards as he settles into a more senior role within the Blues squad.

The 24-year-old is about to start only his third season as a first-team regular but finds himself as one of the more experienced squad members after a period of transition in West London.

With Chelsea kicking off a new era under Mauricio Pochettino with a 5-0 pre-season win over Wrexham, the centre-back wants to do all he can to ease the bedding in process.

He told the club's official site: "It's crazy how the years are going by. I'm into my third season and now one of the more senior players in this young squad.

"I think it's important that I help set the standards. I know the club inside out and I hope for the younger players that I can be a leader and someone they feel comfortable to talk to.

"But I'm still young as well, so there will be things that I can learn from them too. Sticking together like that is what we need to do this season. We’re going to need everyone.

"The new players have settled in well. That is what is good about this group, everyone is made to feel welcome."

Hutch of class

Highly-rated Chelsea starlet Omari Hutchinson has completed a season-long loan move to Championship side Ipswich.

The winger, 19, is regarded as one of the Blues' most exciting talents following his switch from Arsenal last summer, making two first-team appearances in 2022-23.

Hutchinson, capped twice by Jamaica, will continue his development with Kieran McKenna's Tractor Boys after their promotion from League One last term.

He said: "I'm really excited to join the club at such an exciting time.

"I have met with the manager face-to-face and really enjoyed hearing what he had to say, so I'm looking forward to playing in his team.

"I like to attack what's in front of me and I like to score and create chances for my team-mates, playing nice football and keeping possession.

"I like bringing smiles to people's faces and hopefully I can do that here. To play in front of 30,000 people will be crazy and I'm really looking forward to it."
