Big potential

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag insists winger Antony has "big potential" and expects him to deliver the goods for the club over the next few seasons.

The Brazilian cost more than £80million from Ajax in the summer of 2022 but has scored just nine goals in 70 appearances and netted only once this term.

Ten Hag believes domestic abuse allegations, which Antony has always denied, have affected the 22-year-old's form but feels he is getting back to his best.

The United boss said: "Of course it affected him and the process is still going but now he has to bring his big potential.

"One of the big skills of Antony is that he’s very brave. We will support him, absolutely. I have 100% belief in him.

"I see in the training he's doing, he will turn a corner."

Boring billion-pound jibe

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is bored of talk relating to the club's billion-pound spend, claiming his side can develop into an "amazing team".

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville branded them "blue billion-pound bottle jobs" during their 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

But Pochettino insists his team needs longer to find their way.

He said: "The new owners arrived with the right intention and they want to build something that is different from the past.

"For me, the players have an amazing quality — they only need time.

"We cannot see great results. But I think with time we are going to have an amazing team because we are young and we are learning."

Embrace the challenge

Russell Martin wants Southampton to embrace the challenge of facing Liverpool at Anfield during tonight's FA Cup fifth round tie.

Jurgen Klopp's side are in the midst of a severe injury crisis and will likely have to field a few youngsters from the start.

And the Saints boss believes the game is an opportunity for his side to test themselves on the biggest stage.

He said: "There's always pressure but I think no one will expect us to get anything outside of this building.

"The challenge for us is to be the team we want to be. I say that every week but now we're going to Anfield, an amazing place to play and they have just won a cup.

"The challenge is to go there and be brave and aggressive and see how far that can take us."

Football gives me life

Spain's Jenni Hermoso says her love of football still burns bright six months on from winning the World Cup, when former federation chief Luis Rubiales controversially kissed her.

Hermoso, 33, filed a legal complaint against Rubiales after the kiss, which she says was not consensual.

And ahead of tonight's Nations League final against France, she remains keen to deliver glory for her country.

She said: "I'm lucky to be back in a final after six very long months.

"Today I'm enjoying football, competing with Spain to win another tournament.

"If we win, Spain will have made history again."

Cheick in for the long haul

Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure has signed a new five-year deal with the club.

The 24-year-old has made 35 appearances for the Eagles since signing in 2022 but is currently injured and will not feature again this season.

That has not prevented the club locking him down for the long haul, after Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise, Sam Johnstone and Jordan Ayew also signed new contracts at Selhurst Park this term.

Doucoure said: "I'm really happy to commit my future to Crystal Palace — I've enjoyed my time here so much already.

"We have a great group here and I'm looking forward to getting back on the pitch as quickly as possible to play in front of the supporters of this fantastic football club."
