The January transfer window did not deliver the exciting deadline day fans were hoping for but a handful of moves caught the eye.

Read on for all the major stories in bite-sized chunks or click above to watch LiveScore's transfer show.

Villa get their man

Aston Villa won the race for Middlesbrough forward Morgan Rogers to dominate the deadline day headlines.

The Premier League outfit reportedly shelled out an initial £8million to land their man.

England youth international Rogers, 21, has seven goals and eight assists to his name this term in all competitions and scored for Boro against Chelsea in their Carabao Cup semi-final last month.

It marks a return to the West Midlands for the Halesowen-born starlet, who started out at West Brom and has also been on Manchester City's books.

Veliz joins Sevilla

Tottenham striker Alejo Veliz has joined Sevilla on loan for the rest of the season.

The Argentine, 20, who switched to Spurs from Rosario Central last summer, has made eight appearances for Ange Postecoglou's men and scored his first Premier League goal against Brighton in December.

Timo Werner's arrival in North London pushed Veliz further down the pecking order and he will now continue his development in LaLiga.

Santos leaves Chelsea

Chelsea have loaned Andrey Santos to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg until the end of the season.

Wishing the 19-year-old midfielder all the best in France, a short statement from the Blues said: "Good luck in Strasbourg, Andrey!"

Santos spent the first half of the campaign at Nottingham Forest but made just two appearances before being recalled by his parent club.

Holgate joins Blades

Struggling Sheffield United have completed a deadline-day swoop for defender Mason Holgate, who joins on loan from Everton.

Holgate, 27, spent the first half of the season at Southampton but will now aid Chris Wilder's bid to keep the Blades in the Premier League.

Wilder said: "Mason's desire to come here and join our fight is huge for me.

"He's got a point to prove. He's a local lad who knows what Sheffield United are all about, he has his finger on the pulse and knows what to expect here."

Traore departs Villa

Aston Villa winger Bertrand Traore has joined Villarreal on loan until the end of the season.

Traore, 28, has made 62 appearances for the Villans, with the majority coming in his first season after joining in 2020.

With his contract expiring in the summer, the Burkina Faso international looks to have played his last game for the West Midlands outfit.

Forest loan out Mangala

Nottingham Forest have offloaded Orel Mangala to Lyon, with the option to make the deal permanent.

The Belgian, 25, made 22 appearances during the first half of the season but Forest are under pressure to raise funds due to financial fair play constraints.

They have also sold goalkeeper Ethan Horvath to Cardiff for an undisclosed fee.

French Claret

Burnley have signed defender Maxime Esteve on loan from Montpellier.

The centre-back joins fellow loanee David Datro Fofana, who switched to Turf Moor from Chelsea in mid-January.

Esteve, 21, said: "I feel very good. I'm really happy and ever since I first heard about the move I wanted to move here.

"I have followed the Premier League since being a young child and had only pictured myself ever being here, so I am really excited.

"The manager spoke really positively about the project and I just wanted to be a part of it straight away."

Seagulls Rob youngster

Brighton have secured the capture of Sunderland teen Josh Robertson for an undisclosed fee.

Robertson, 18, has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with the Seagulls and will join their development squad.

Under-21s head coach Shannon Ruth told Brighton's official website: "We're delighted to welcome Josh to the club and are looking forward to working with him.

"He's had a really good education with Sunderland, which was rewarded with his Premier League 2 debut earlier this season.

"He's demonstrated his ability to play in a variety of attacking roles, while also showing his goalscoring threat.

"We believe he will fit in well with our style of play, which will also allow him to show his strengths."

Sweet deal for Toffees

England youth international Eleanor Dale is looking forward to realising her dream of playing in the Women's Super League after joining Everton.

The Toffees, who completed Dale's deal before the WSL transfer window slammed shut yesterday, unveiled their new recruit this evening.

And the former Nebraska Huskers ace is relishing life on Merseyside having concluded her studies in the United States.

She told Everton's official website: "I'm really excited to be here. It's been my dream to play in the Women's Super League.

"I'm thankful I've got this opportunity to come to this amazing club.  Hopefully I can make a difference and hit the ground running."

Villa pinch Arsenal youngster

Aston Villa have signed Lino Sousa from Arsenal, with the 19-year-old moving to Championship side Plymouth on loan.

The left-back joined the Gunners in 2022 after coming through West Brom's academy.

Portugal-born Sousa made the bench for Arsenal's FA Cup third-round clash with Liverpool last month and has played with fellow Argyle loanee Ashley Phillips at youth level for England.

Pilgrims boss Ian Foster said: "Lino is somebody I've known for a whille.

"He's a really exciting player with huge potential and I think you can see why the likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa have taken him."

Brighton sack Phillips

Women's Super League strugglers Brighton have parted company with head coach Melissa Phillips.

Having picked up just three wins from 12 WSL games this season, the Seagulls sit 10th in the table.

And despite leading the club to safety last term after taking charge in April, 36-year-old Phillips has been shown the door after a miserable run of league results.

Technical director David Weir said: "This is not a decision taken lightly but we feel it is vital for the progress we want to see.

"We invested heavily in the women's squad and infrastructure going into this season and results and performances have not been at the level we had expected.

"We would like to thank Melissa for her efforts and, on behalf of everyone at the club, wish her well for the future."

Bees' sting in tail

Thomas Frank admits Brentford remain hopeful of completing some deadline day business.

The West Londoners were close to sealing a £25m deal for Club Brugge winger Antonio Nusa but have reportedly pulled out at the last minute due to concerns over the Norwegian's medical.

While that situation could be revisited in the summer, the Bees boss is keen to secure an alternative before the window closes.

Frank, 50, said: "We will try to see if we can sign one more."

Despite rumours galore, star striker Ivan Toney will not be leaving the Gtech Community Stadium. Frank added: "Ivan will stay.

"I was pretty from the beginning that Ivan will stay with us, so I was not worried about that."

Ribeiro is a Red

Nottingham Forest kicked off the Premier League's deadline day incomings with the capture of Portugal Under-20s striker Rodrigo Ribeiro on an initial loan from Sporting.

Ribeiro, 18, has scored 11 goals in 42 appearances for the Portuguese club's B side and made his first-team debut against Manchester City in the Champions League in March 2022.

He has yet to score in seven senior outings but Forest could make the deal permanent in the summer.

Dahoud departs

Brighton midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud is back in the Bundesliga after Stuttgart on loan.

The 28-year-old was handed a four-year deal last summer when he arrived on a free having parted company with Borussia Dortmund but has only started six Premier League games this term.

The Seagulls' technical director David Weir said: "This is a good move for Mahmoud. It will give him an opportunity to play regularly for a side doing very well towards the top of the Bundesliga."

Jimenez blow

Fulham boss Marco Silva has revealed Raul Jimenez faces a spell on the sidelines after limping out of Tuesday's goalless draw with Everton.

Jimenez, 32, has scored five goals this season and his absence leaves the Cottagers short of forward options, with Silva calling on club chiefs to sign a replacement in the final hours of deadline day.

He said: "It's too early now to say how many weeks it [the injury] will be. But it's not something that is going to be quick.

"Last summer, even with Raul in our squad, we sold a striker [Aleksandar Mitrovic] for a big amount of money. We were not able to replace him.

"Until now we've been not able to sign another one. That's the reality."

Wrexham making moves

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney kicked off deadline day in style at Wrexham with an early double swoop.

The Welsh outfit landed defender Luke Bolton from Salford City and striker Jack Marriott from Fleetwood on permanent deals, with both players arriving for undisclosed fees.

Phil Parkinson's side, who are bankrolled by Hollywood stars Reynolds and McElhenney, currently sit second in League Two as they bid to continue their rise up the football pyramid.
