Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink understands why Harry Kane decided to join Bayern Munich this summer.

The England captain called time on his record-breaking Tottenham career, opting to sign a four-year deal with the Bundesliga champions.

Kane, 30, will be desperate to win a first piece of silverware with the Bavarian giants after years of near misses at both club and international level.

His Bundesliga debut saw the prolific marksman register a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win for Bayern at Werder Bremen — and another chance to impress beckons when Thomas Tuchel's men host Augsburg on Sunday.

Speaking exclusively to LiveScore about Kane's move, ex-Chelsea striker Hasselbaink said: "He wants to win trophies — and I can understand that.

"I did not win a lot in my career and when I sit with certain players and they speak about how much they won, I feel empty inside and know that I cannot have those kind of conversations.

"So for Kane to want that joy of silverware, I really understand."

Bayern have won 11 Bundesliga titles on the spin while also lifting the Champions League in 2020.

And Hasselbaink expects Die Roten to be targeting further continental success this term with Kane added to their ranks.

He added: "Bayern is a magnificent club and I don't think the English understand how big they really are.

"There are three clubs who are going to be able to win the Champions League this season, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern.

"So Kane has made his choice and we all should respect that."

Hasselbaink continued: "It is a brave move [by Kane], too, but sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone to reach that next level — and that's exactly what he's doing.

"You look at Alan Shearer, he wanted to play for his hometown club Newcastle [instead of Manchester United] but he'd already won the Premier League with Blackburn.

"Kane doesn't have that."
