Bridget Galloway admits the opportunity to rejoin childhood club Newcastle was too good to turn down.

The striker, 24, left Championship outfit Durham during the summer to link up with the Magpies in the division below.

And Galloway, who has netted nine goals in six appearances this season, believes Newcastle will soon be mixing it with the cream of women's football.

Speaking exclusively to LiveScore, she said: "It [the summer move] was all to do with Newcastle's ambition and the project they've set out, which is great.

"The decision just felt right at the time and still does. We're going for promotion, so hopefully I'll be back in the Championship next season.

"The club's aim is to be in the Women's Super League — and we've got everything we need to get there.

"We actually use the same pressing tactics the men use in games, while also looking at their set-pieces and aggression."

Burnley test

Newcastle host Northern Premier Division table-toppers Burnley on Sunday and Galloway is excited to try and extend their impressive start.

Becky Langley's side have won all four of their league games so far, scoring 12 goals and conceding just one.

Galloway added: "I look forward to every single match and take each one as it comes.

"Burnley is a huge fixture, they're top of the table — but that's because they've played more games.

"We beat them in the cup earlier this season as well, so it'll be another good test for the squad."

Galloway is aware Burnley may alter their tactics to try and nullify her threat.

She said: "They might drop a midfielder back in to try and stop me, because most teams have started doubling up.

"I can guarantee every game now I'm going to get snapped!"

Made in Sunderland

Despite being a Newcastle fan, Galloway spent four years mastering her craft at Sunderland after making her debut in October 2016.

That first appearance came when she was subbed on for Beth Mead, who went on to become a household name as England won Euro 2022.

Galloway, an ex-England Under-19s international, scored the Lasses' last WSL goal before their relegation in 2017-18 — a winner against Yeovil on the final day of the season.

She added: "I enjoyed my time at Sunderland, although I had no choice but to go there really.

"I started off at Newcastle when I was 10 but the club's centre of excellence closed and I moved across to Sunderland.

"Most of the girls went on trial at Sunderland. In the end, the majority of the team were Newcastle fans like me!

"But it was great there and the first team were in the WSL at the time. It was good looking up to all those players and then getting my own experience in the top flight."
