Eric Dier will join Bayern Munich permanently this summer after the option in his loan deal was activated.

The defender, 30, moved to Germany from Tottenham until the end of the season for a reported £3.5million fee in January.

With Dier's Spurs contract set to expire on June 30, an option was included to make his transfer to the Bundesliga champions permanent if he made a certain number of appearances.

He has played seven times under Thomas Tuchel, triggering a new 12-month contract to keep him at Bayern until the summer of 2025.

The England international said: "I am very happy in Munich. Now my future is settled and I can concentrate solely on my performance and how I can help the club.

"We want to win games and titles again, even if it's a difficult phase for us at the moment."

Bayern sit second in the Bundesliga table, seven points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen following last night's 2-2 draw at Freiburg.

They also trail Lazio 1-0 after their Champions League last-16 first leg, with the return fixture at the Allianz Arena taking place on Tuesday.

Boss Tuchel announced last month that he would be stepping down at the end of the season with no successor yet announced.

Today's announcement confirms the end of Dier's nine-and-a-half-year association with Spurs, where he made made 364 appearances before following Harry Kane to Munich.

The Cheltenham-born defender graduated from Portuguese club Sporting's academy and then made the switch to North London in 2014.

He has been capped 49 times by his country but has not played for the Three Lions since their 2022 World Cup victory over Senegal.
