David Beckham's Inter Miami want to become one of the world's top football clubs while also building their status as an international brand.

The former England captain gave Major League Soccer a huge boost when he joined LA Galaxy from Real Madrid in 2007 and further raised the profile of the competition by launching a new team in Florida ahead of the 2020 season.

After an underwhelming period on the pitch, the signing of Lionel Messi from Paris Saint-Germain last summer thrust Miami into the global spotlight.

And things are only looking up for co-owner Beckham, with Gerardo Martino's side starting their new campaign with a 2-0 win against Real Salt Lake last Wednesday night.

Assistant manager Javier Morales said: "I'm the fifth employee of this club so I know this club from the bottom.

"When I first spoke to David, he said he thinks this could be a big club. Obviously, he came from Manchester United and he used to play for big teams. That is his idea.

"He wants Inter Miami to be a top team not just in the country but also in the world."

Ambitions are high at Miami and alongside Messi, Beckham has drafted in ex-Barcelona superstars Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez.

Their quality on the pitch will boost the club's hopes of winning silverware this season while shirt sales have been skyrocketing around the world.

Chief business officer Xavier Asensi believes the unique combination of top-class players and an iconic pink kit will help the club become instantly recognisable in their quest for global prominence.

He said: "We have the potential of the sexiness, the brand that can be a fashion. People are wearing it and they know what it is.

"Sometimes people wearing the Yankees cap think it is New York and they like New York. But it is the baseball team. We have that potential.

"To unlock that, only the best is enough. We need to surround ourselves with the best people to unlock the potential that we have as a brand. This is not just football, we can go bigger and better."
