Cody Gakpo is adamant Liverpool's mentality is a key reason behind their recent impressive run.

The Reds made it four wins on the spin with a 2-1 victory over Fulham. Gakpo completed the comeback to give the Reds a slender advantage going into the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

Willian had given the Cottagers the lead at Anfield in the first half before local lad Curtis Jones equalised with a deflected effort.

Gakpo's 71st-minute strike, brilliantly assisted by Darwin Nunez, capped off a successful four days for the injury-hit hosts following their 2-0 win at Arsenal in the FA Cup third round last Sunday.

The Dutch forward told Sky Sports: "He [Jones] got a very important goal to get us back in the game and after that I felt we really dominated, not only with possession but creating chances and then [I got] the second so I was happy.

"It's the mentality in the group, in the club, in the city, everyone is like this mentality of just keep going and it doesn't matter what happens and we showed that again today.

"If you have that mentality a lot of things can happen.

"I love playing with these guys. We showed good mentality and have to keep going as it's only the first leg of this game."

Liverpool were without the services of a number of key players against Fulham, including Trent Alexander-Arnold who picked up a knee injury in the win at Arsenal.

But goalscorer Jones is not concerned with the list of absentees, as his side continue to compete on four fronts.

He said: "It is one of those things that there are plenty of games coming round, we are making changes to the team but we are still getting the job done.

"So happy days."

Liverpool and Fulham will lock horns again at Craven Cottage on January 24 to decide who will play either Chelsea or Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
