Bristol City or Tie Double Chance

Leicester, top of the Championship and 14 points clear of third place just six weeks ago, have been usurped by Leeds and are just a solitary point ahead of Ipswich heading into Friday's trip to Bristol City.

It is all change in just a few short weeks and the Foxes are well aware that neither Leeds nor Ipswich are showing any signs of hitting the buffers.

Experienced midfielders Matty James, a former Leicester favourite, and Joe Williams are poised to return after five and one-game absences.

Sam Bell, Rob Atkinson and Kal Naismith are Bristol’s only other absentees.

Leicester boss Enzo Maresca hopes to have key defender Ricardo Pereira back after a month on the sidelines. Dennis Praet should also be fit though Callum Doyle is suspended.

The stats

Bristol City have lost five of their last six matches.

Their last nine home games have produced just 12 goals with seven of those encounters producing under 1.5 goals, while the Robins have been involved in 12 1-0 scorelines this season, the most in the division.

Leicester have won a Championship-high 13 times away this season and have scored 39 goals, also a divisional best. They are yet to be behind at half-time in any away league game.

The Foxes are one of two sides – Southampton are the other – yet to be involved in a 0-0 draw.

Prediction

The international break came at a good time for both Bristol City and Leicester and a reinvigorated Robins can return by popping another dent in the Foxes’ promotion push.

City, play-off contenders just a few weeks ago, are right out of the mix after one win in six.

They have been frustrating all season but are capable of beating anyone, as evidenced by wins over West Ham in the FA Cup and Southampton in the Championship.

For Leicester, they have had two weeks to mull over having seen what looked an impregnable lead at the top disappear and are now in a frantic scrap just to make the top two.

They suddenly look fragile with one win in seven in all competitions.

Exiting the FA Cup has done them a favour but tension is in the air and the Robins can exploit that by taking something from the match.
