Blackburn will look to move one step closer to safety when they travel to Ashton Gate to take on Bristol City in the Championship on Wednesday night.

While Liam Manning's Robins are sat safely in mid-table, Blackburn are still in a vulnerable position.

John Eustace's side are only four points above the bottom three, but another win or two should be enough for them to book their place in the second tier next season.

Team news

Manning has five players sidelined until the end of the month, with Taylor Gardner-Hickman, Kal Naismith, Sam Bell, Rob Atkinson and Ayman Benarous all still in the treatment room.

Eustace has already lost Harry Leonard for the campaign, while Ryan Hedges may have played his last game of the season after suffering a hamstring injury against Southampton last weekend.

Championship top scorer Sammie Szmodics, who has netted 23 goals for Blackburn, carried a couple of knocks against the Saints and may have to play through the pain barrier again.

Yasin Ayari is also out until May with a hamstring problem, while the game comes too soon for John Fleck and Amor Sigurdsson.

The stats

Bristol City have kept three successive clean sheets in the Championship, while they have recorded four shutouts in five in the second tier.

At home, they have won two on the spin 1-0, a scoreline that has settled their last four outings at Ashton Gate.

Blackburn have only won one of their previous 12 in all competitions, but that was a thumping 5-1 success over Sunderland on Easter Monday.

They also beat the Robins 2-1 in the first meeting in December at Ewood Park.

Prediction

Bristol City boss Liam Manning might already be looking towards next season
Bristol City boss Liam Manning might already be looking towards next season

Bristol City have very little to play for this season and after arriving in November, Liam Manning may already be working on ideas for his first full campaign in charge of the club.

Defensively, they have been solid in recent weeks, keeping league-leaders Leicester from scoring at the end of March.

Blackburn have failed to score in five of their last 10 on the road in the Championship and that suggests their win over Sunderland was a bit of an anomaly.

Eustace's team will be desperate to secure a point at least and this should be a low-scoring battle.
