Liverpool will be looking for a seventh league away win of the season at Brentford
Liverpool will be looking for a seventh league away win of the season at Brentford

- Both teams have scored in 10 of Brentford's 12 home league games this season
- Liverpool have won six times away from home in the league in 2023-24
- Recommended bet: Liverpool to win and both teams to score

Premier League leaders Liverpool can continue their title push when they head to Brentford in Saturday's lunchtime game.

Jurgen Klopp's announcement that he will be leaving Anfield in the summer has given his side extra motivation to secure silverware this season and they bounced back from their defeat at Arsenal with last Saturday's victory over Burnley.

Brentford also won their last fixture, backing up encouraging performances in defeats to Tottenham and Manchester City by winning 2-0 at Wolves.

They are unbeaten at home against Liverpool in the Premier League and have the talent to test the Reds on Saturday.

Team news

Brentford are still without defender Aaron Hickey, who has suffered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Kevin Schade (adductor), Josh DaSilva (knee), Rico Henry (knee) and Bryan Mbeumo (ankle), but Yoane Wissa could feature after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Liverpool will be without Joel Matip (knee), while Dominik Szoboszlai (thigh) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (knee) will be assessed.

Joe Gomez (illness), Alisson Becker (illness) and Mohamed Salah (thigh/hamstring) are in line to return, as is Ibrahima Konate, who is available after suspension.

The stats

Brentford have recorded only four home league wins this season, losing three of their last four.

However, the Bees have scored in their last nine in all competitions, while both teams have netted in 10 of Brentford's 12 league home games in 2023-24.

Liverpool have won six times away from home in the league this season, but recently went down 3-1 at Arsenal. However, that is their only defeat in 13 games in all competitions.

Liverpool won November's reverse game at Anfield 3-0, but are still to win on a Premier League visit to the Gtech Community Stadium, drawing 3-3 in 2021-22 and losing 3-1 in 2022-23.

They will also need to be wary of Ivan Toney, who has scored three times in four appearances this season.

Prediction

Thomas Frank's Brentford have a good home record against Liverpool
Thomas Frank's Brentford have a good home record against Liverpool

Brentford have understandably gone up a level since Toney's return.

While Liverpool's visit comes amid a tough run of fixtures, Thomas Frank might already be looking ahead, with the Bees playing only two of the current top six – Manchester United and Aston Villa – in their final 10 matches of the season.

That means they will have plenty of chances to pick up points as they aim to improve their current standing of 14th.

Frank's side have a good home record against Liverpool and will test the Reds, with Toney's strike partnership alongside Neal Maupay offering a two-fold threat that Premier League opponents rarely have to deal with.

Liverpool also have some key absences and, for all their form this season, have not always played convincingly.

They do, though, have undeniable quality, with Diogo Jota netting five times in his last six outings to more than cover for Salah's absence.

The Egyptian's potential return will be a massive lift for Klopp and help make up for some of their defensive deficiencies.

Like Brentford, both teams scoring has been a feature of the Reds' recent games, occurring in their last five in all competitions.

Still, with so much quality and every point counting in the Premier League title push, the Reds can grab another three on Saturday.
