Luton's game with Bournemouth — abandoned after Tom Lockyer suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch — will be replayed in full, the Premier League has announced.

The match was suspended after 59 minutes on Saturday when Lockyer went down with the score level at 1-1.

And it has been decided that the game will be started from scratch rather than continuing from where it was left.

A Premier League statement read: "Following the on-field medical emergency involving Luton player Tom Lockyer, the Premier League Board has decided last Saturday's Bournemouth vs Luton fixture will be replayed in full.

"The game will be rescheduled for later in the season, with a date to be confirmed following consultation with relevant parties.

"The decision to abandon the match in the 59th minute was made collectively between the match officials, players, managers from both clubs and the Premier League.

"The League would like to thank the medical staff and all those involved for their swift actions in responding to what was an extremely upsetting situation for everyone.

"We wish Tom a continued recovery and our thoughts are with him, his family and all those at Luton Town."

Lockyer is undergoing tests and scans after also collapsing on the pitch during the Championship play-off final against Coventry in May.

And his club released a statement expressing their gratitude for the quick response of both clubs' medics as well as the conduct of both sets of supporters during the incident.

It read: "Tom was transferred to hospital, where we can reassure supporters that he is stable and currently undergoing further tests with his family at his bedside.

"We would like to thank everyone for their support, concern and loving messages for Locks."
