Ben Stokes was happy to see his century set up a 160-run victory for England against the Netherlands at the Cricket World Cup.

Jos Buttler's men were playing for pride in Pune after their defence of the trophy came to an underwhelming end in Saturday's loss to Australia.

But against the Dutch, Stokes top scored with 108 to help post 339-9 with Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid each claiming three wickets to complete an easy win.

Stokes said: "I'm more pleased for us to get a victory over the line. It's been a tough World Cup and nice to get back to winning ways today.

"It was obviously a nice wicket to bat on, it was just back of a length and had that tennis-ball bounce. I just tried to take it as deep as I possibly could then cash in at the end.

"I use the scoreboard as my friend a lot. Whenever pressure feels like it's building or if it is, I just look up and you realise you've got more time than you think.

"It's amazing how quickly you can catch up. The last 14 overs, I think we scored at 10 an over."

Stokes shared a 129-run partnership with all-rounder Chris Woakes, who came to the crease with Matthew Mott's side creaking at 192-6.

Woakes' 51 off 45 balls took the 2019 winners past 300 and Buttler highlighted the performance of the Warwickshire man.

England's skipper said: "We were desperate for the win.

"We got off to a great start, had a bit of a speed bump in the middle. We needed someone to stand up and take charge.

"There was some very smart cricket between Stokes and Woakes to get us to that score.

"Chris Woakes is a class cricketer and has been a brilliant performer for us."

England finish their tournament against Pakistan in Kolkata on Saturday aiming to secure their third win from nine outings.
