Mikel Arteta hailed Leandro Trossard's impact as Arsenal claimed a crucial victory over Premier League strugglers Burnley.

The Belgian forward, 28, bravely opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time before providing a perfect delivery from a corner for William Saliba to restore the Gunners' lead after Josh Brownhill had levelled.

Oleksandr Zinchenko then secured the victory with a stunning scissor-kick volley in the 74th minute — although Fabio Vieira saw red for a high challenge late in the game to sour the mood slightly.

Following the hard-fought success, home boss Arteta praised Trossard's reliability to deliver for the Gunners.

He said: "You have to put your body over the line if it's necessary and he's [Trossard] done it.

"It's also the 1,000th goal at Emirates Stadium, a beautiful number, so I'm very happy with him.

"I think every time you ask him to play, whether it's wide or as a nine, it flows and he's a real threat, so I'm really happy with him."

The win saw Arsenal leapfrog their local rivals Tottenham, who suffered a dramatic 2-1 defeat to Wolves earlier in the day, and move level points with Man City ahead of their Sunday showdown with Chelsea.

Having reached another international break, Arteta stressed the importance of building momentum and ensuring players recoup ahead of the busy winter schedule.

He added: "This is what this team does. We play in the best possible way, we give absolutely everything to win games, to earn it.

"It gives us some momentum. We need to get players back because at the moment we have eight players not available and that's a lot.

"In December, we have 11 games coming up, so we better get everybody back quickly."
