- Wales Women are winless in six attempts in 2025 (D2, L4)
- Netherlands Women have gone 10 games without a clean sheet
- Recommended bet: Both teams to score

The Wales Women have reached the main draw of a European Championship for the first time in their history and they open their tournament against the Netherlands Women on Saturday.

The Dragons are the lowest ranked team in the competition and they come into the tournament in poor form, with four defeats and no wins in their last six games.

With France and defending champions England completing Group D, both of these teams will view this opening game as a must-win assignment if they are to progress beyond the group stage.

The Netherlands look the more likely to claim a vital three points here, as they warmed up for the competition with a 2-1 win over Finland and now have four wins in their last six games.

Team news

Wales have no injury concerns coming into the game and Sophie Ingle could feature after a long stint on the sidelines.

The former Dragons skipper missed the entire WSL campaign with Chelsea due to a knee injury but has been included in the squad, if she does play against the Dutch it will likely be as a substitute.

The Netherlands also have a fully fit squad to select from. Star forward Vivianne Miedema made a goalscoring return against Finland and Lineth Beerensteyn should be available despite missing that final warm-up friendly.

The stats

Both teams have scored in seven of Wales’ last 10 games.

The Netherlands have conceded in 12 of their last 14 games.

Over 2.5 goals have been scored in nine of the Netherlands’ last 10 games.

The Oranje have seven wins in their last 11 games.

Wales scored 24 goals in 10 qualifying games, including play-offs.

Prediction

Netherlands are the clear and deserved favourites and they should be expected to get the job done, but the better betting angle could be taking a chance on both teams to score.

This is an historic fixture for Wales as their first ever game in the main draw of this tournament and that perhaps gives them a little extra motivation.

With England and France completing this group, both of these teams will view this as a must-win fixture and that means if one team does fall behind early they will have to go all out to get back into the game and that should lead to plenty of attacking play.

While the Oranje are the stronger side, they do look a little suspect at the back as they have gone 10 games since their last clean sheet, and that shut-out came against minnows Indonesia.

Wales have only failed to score in one of their last five games and they scored in defeat to a strong Italy side in their last fixture, so backing both teams to score looks a strong option in this Euro 2025 Group D opener.
