- Real Madrid beat Juventus 1-0 in the last 16
- Dortmund pipped Monterrey of Mexico to reach this stage

- Recommended bet: Real Madrid/Real Madrid Half-Time/Full-Time

Xabi Alonso's Real Madrid and Niko Kovac's Borussia Dortmund have eased into the last eight with identical records as they prepare to clash in East Rutherford for a place in the semis.

Real beat Juventus 1-0 in the last 16 after topping their group with seven points while Dortmund also registered two wins and a draw prior to pipping Monterrey 2-1 in the first knockout round.

Team news

Kylian Mbappe came off the bench for Real in the last round after recovering from an illness, but the vibes from the Spanish camp suggest he may be a sub again with academy graduate Gonzalo Garcia keeping his place.

Alonso went with a back three against Juventus though Aurelien Tchouameni's versatility means he does not necessarily persist with that set-up for 90 minutes.

Jobe Bellingham, brother of Real's Jude, is suspended for Dortmund after being booked twice.

Marcel Sabitzer is the obvious replacement though Julian Brandt or Yan Couto could come in with a modest tweak.

The stats

Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund each topped their groups with seven points.

Real have won their last four meetings with Dortmund, most recently a 5-2 Champions League success in October.

Five of the last six meetings between these clubs have produced four goals or more.

Dortmund are averaging 12.3 shots per game at the Club World Cup, the lowest of the eight teams who made the quarters.

However, Real are conceding 14 shots per game, which is the most of the eight quarter-finalists.

Prediction

Real Madrid landed the Half Time/Full Time bet in two of their group games - the 3-1 win over Pachuca and their 3-0 win over Salzburg - and can do so again against Borussia Dortmund at the MetLife Stadium.

The last of the four quarter-finals is an intriguing all-European affair, a repeat of the 2024 Champions League final, and it's a match that Real have to feel confident they can win.

Neither of these sides are setting the Club World Cup alight - but then few are - with Alonso finding his feet after just a few weeks in charge of the Bernabeu side.

The return to near full health of star striker Mbappe gives him and Real another edge and with the pace they have up front they can take full advantage of Dortmund's high line.

Dortmund rode their luck against Monterrey in the last round and a side renowned as an adventurous, free-scorer is struggling to carve out chances.
