Draw

Bayern Munich have one foot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League after a 3-0 first-leg success over fellow German side Bayer Leverkusen in the last-16 at home last week.

Two goals from Harry Kane and another from Jamal Musiala at the Allianz Arena mean Vincent Kompany's side look to have already taken the tie away from Leverkusen and the six-time European champions should now safely navigate the return clash at the BayArena.

Team news

Leverkusen defender Nordi Mukiele was sent off in the first leg so is suspended for Tuesday's game.

Florian Wirtz is a major doubt after he was forced off in the second half against Werder Bremen with a foot injury not long after coming on as a half-time substitute, while Granit Xhaka and Edmond Tapsoba will be assessed after they suffered knocks in the defeat.

Robert Andrich could be back following a recent illness but injured pair Martin Terrier and Jeanuel Belocian remain on the sidelines

Bayern's Manuel Neuer came off in the first leg against Leverkusen with a calf injury, so Jonas Urbig is poised to start in goal.

Aleksandar Pavlovic remains a major doubt for Kompany's side but Daniel Peretz is close to a comeback and could return to the squad.

Both sides were beaten in the German top flight over the weekend, Bayern losing 3-2 at home to Bochum while Leverkusen went down 2-0 at home to Werder Bremen.

Bayern are top of the Bundesliga, eight points clear of second-placed Leverkusen.

Last week's victory was Bayern's first against Leverkusen in seven attempts in all competitions.

Bayer Leverkusen won all four of their home games in the League Phase, beating AC Milan, Salzburg, Inter Milan and Sparta Prague.

Leverkusen finished sixth in the League Phase on 16 points, Bayern ended up 12th with just one point fewer.

Prediction

Bayern did all the hard work in this last-16 tie at home last week and there appears no realistic chance Leverkusen will be able to recover the three-goal deficit at home.

Alonso's side will be keen to at least recover some pride by avoiding defeat on Tuesday and, prior to the first leg, they did have a good record against the Bavarian giants, winning three of the last six meetings, while drawing the other three.

They will go on the attack early on to try and get themselves back into contention but overall it looks a huge task for the home side.

The jeopardy has largely gone out of the tie thanks to Bayern's convincing first-leg victory and unless Bayer manage an early goal, the second clash could drift the longer it goes on.
