Transfer Talk: Five WSL moves that could happen in January

The January transfer window is open and a host of Women's Super League clubs have already broken out the chequebook.

WSL sides have until 11pm GMT on January 31 to get new players through the door.

We have picked out a selection of potential moves to keep an eye on before the window slams shut. 

Mary Earps

England goalkeeper Mary Earps enjoyed a stellar 2023 and this year could begin with a high-profile transfer.

The Lionesses star, 30, appears unlikely to sign a new contract with Manchester United, opening the door for a departure this month with just six months left on her current deal. 

WSL rivals Arsenal continue to be linked with the Sports Personality of the Year winner, though recent reports suggest French side Paris Saint-Germain could be a more likely destination.

Ellie Roebuck

Fellow England stopper Ellie Roebuck's future is also uncertain after falling down the pecking order at Manchester City.

The emergence of youngster Khiara Keating has threatened her place for both club and country and the 24-year-old star is desperate for game time.

Roebuck's contract is up in the summer and she could well find herself moving across Manchester if Earps leaves United. 

Emily Fox

United States defender Emily Fox has reportedly interested a number of WSL clubs but Arsenal appear to have stolen a march on their rivals. 

Gunners reporter Tim Stillman has revealed talks over a move to North London for the right-back are at an advanced stage.

Fox, 25, left North Carolina Courage at the end of the NWSL campaign and appears destined for her first foray into English football.

Maelle Lakrar

Chelsea are keen on France and Montpellier defender Maelle Lakrar as the WSL champions look to bolster their defensive options.

Injuries to Millie Bright and Aniek Nouwen have left Emma Hayes short of natural centre-backs, with Sjoeke Nusken recently having to drop back from midfield.

Lakrar, 23, would be a good addition for the Blues after cementing herself as a regular in the French national side. 

Katrina Gorry

Experienced Australia midfielder Katrina Gorry appears set to seal her arrival in the WSL with West Ham this month.

Gorry, 31, was a key player during the Matildas' run to the Women's World Cup semi-finals on home soil last year.

With more than a century of international caps to her name, she is a free agent after leaving Vittsjo GIK in Sweden.
