Liverpool and City face-off tops this week's must-watch TV games

A gripping campaign of football barrels on into March and the stakes continue to rise as we approach the final few months of the season.

Read on as we pick out seven must-watch matches from a bumper catalogue of televised action this week.

Monday, March 4 — Sheffield United vs Arsenal (Sky Sports, 8pm)

With both Liverpool and Manchester City winning in the Premier League at the weekend, all eyes are on Arsenal to overcome Sheffield United and keep their hopes of a first league title since 2004 alive.

Victory for the Gunners will mean the top three remain separated by just two points.

And with Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola going head-to-head at Anfield on Sunday, there is an added motivation for Mikel Arteta's men to close in on top spot.

Tuesday, March 5 — Bayern Munich vs Lazio (TNT Sports, 8pm)

Harry Kane and Bayern Munich have some work to do if they are to progress into the quarter-finals of the Champions League as their hopes of retaining their Bundesliga crown continue to fade.

The good news for the England skipper is that they are only a goal down on aggregate to Lazio.

They will also have the support of 75,000 home fans who will not want to see their side dumped out in the last 16 for only the second time in 12 years.

Wednesday, March 6 — Real Madrid vs RB Leipzig (TNT Sports, 8pm)

Jude Bellingham was sent off in the aftermath of Real Madrid's 2-2 draw with Valencia on Saturday after he was denied the winner in the dying seconds and the cameras are sure to be on him again.

Los Blancos hold a 1-0 lead over RB Leipzig heading into the second leg of their last 16 Champions League tie and will fancy their chances of extending their winning run in the competition to eight games.

Thursday, March 7 — Roma vs Brighton (TNT Sports, 5.45pm)

It may not be Jose Mourinho in the dugout for Roma any more but their clash against Brighton is still the headline act in the last 16 of the Europa League.

The Seagulls are the first English club to progress to the knockout rounds on their debut in Europe since Bolton in 2005-06 and will leap into the unknown as they face Italian opposition for the first time.

Sunday, March 10 — Aston Villa vs Tottenham (Sky Sports, 1pm)

Aston Villa and Tottenham may both end up playing in the Champions League next season if England are handed an extra spot but for now they continue their battle for fourth place in the Premier League.

A win for Villa would take them eight points clear of their London rivals.

Should Ange Postecolgou's side emerge victorious, however, it would see them close the gap to two — with Spurs still having a game in hand.

Sunday, March 10 — Liverpool vs Manchester City (Sky Sports, 3.45pm)

We may look back on Liverpool and City's upcoming clash as the title decider and the excitement is already building ahead of Sunday's showdown.

The Citizens remain unbeaten in the league in 2024 but will undoubtedly face their toughest test of the campaign when they travel to Anfield, where they have not won since 2021.
