Plymouth vs Hull predictions: Tigers to do their part in play-off push

Plymouth will welcome Hull to Home Park on the final day of the regular season in the Championship with both teams in need of the points for entirely different reasons.

The Pilgrims head into Saturday's clash sitting just a point and place above the relegation zone, meaning only a win will guarantee their second-tier status without the need for other results going their way.

Hull also need a victory to keep their hopes of making the play-offs alive, although the Tigers will also require results to go in their favour if they are to gatecrash the top six.

Plymouth have no fresh injury concerns to contend with, but after losing their last two games interim head coach Neil Dewsnip could make some changes, with the likes of Ryan Hardie, Julio Pleguezuelo and Adam Forshaw pushing for recalls.

Hull's main fitness concern surrounds Anass Zaroury, with the on-loan Burnley winger expected to remain sidelined with a groin issue.

Plymouth have won only three of their last 16 Championship matches, a run that has dragged them into the relegation battle on the final day.

The Pilgrims won two of their first three matches under caretaker boss Dewsnip following the sacking of Ian Foster at the start of April, but they have since lost back-to-back games without scoring against Stoke and Millwall.

There is no doubting that there is plenty riding on Saturday's contest in Devon, with several permutations that could affect both clubs, but Hull at least know they must win to stand any chance of making it into the play-offs.

That simplicity should help the Tigers against a Plymouth side that can guarantee their safety with a win, but they also know that a draw or even a defeat could still see them avoid an immediate return to League One.

Even without the jeopardy facing both teams on the final day, Hull would still look a shrewd choice to win the match given their impressive away form and their current six-match unbeaten run.

For their part, Plymouth have been nose-diving down the table for a number of months and the strong home record they boasted over the first-half of the season has disappeared – it is just one win in nine across all competitions for the Pilgrims at Home Park.

All the evidence suggests that Hull should win this game, although that still might not be enough for the Tigers to make the play-offs, while Plymouth could be celebrating even in defeat if relegation rivals Birmingham lose at home to Norwich.
