Tie or Swansea Double Chance

Norwich are holding firm in their quest for a Championship play-off spot but they will not be taking in-form Swansea lightly.

The Swans, safe in mid-table and under no pressure, have won three in a row without conceding a single goal and would hope to profit from any tension in the Canaries’ ranks.

Team news

Norwich centre-back Grant Hanley is set to be involved after a six-week lay-off, while 12-goal Jonny Rowe is expected to be fit following a muscle strain picked up against Bristol City last weekend.

Swansea have no new injury worries with Joe Allen, Kyle Naughton and Przemyslaw Placheta ruled out for the season.

Luke Williams has promised to blood some youth in their last two games with Mykola Kukharevych, Charlie Patino and Azeem Abdulai among those hoping to be involved.

Norwich had won eight home games in a row prior to last Saturday’s disappointing 1-1 draw against Bristol City, although they have not lost any of their last 15 at home in all competitions.

Swansea’s away record against the teams in the play-off places reads played five, lost five.

None of the last 10 fixtures between these clubs has ended in a draw.

Prediction

Everything about Norwich’s home form ought to suggest they beat Swansea and beat them well.

But this is no ordinary fixture with David Wagner’s Canaries under the most intense pressure and Swansea arriving in Norfolk under absolutely none whatsoever. And that makes them dangerous.

In their last three fixtures, admittedly against strugglers Stoke, Rotherham and Huddersfield, the Swans have done well, winning all three matches without conceding a single goal.

It means Swansea are in form and relaxed and that makes them capable of exposing any tension in the home side.

And Norwich last week, against Bristol City, looked tight. The match ended 1-1 and Wagner admitted his team had got away with one, while 10 days earlier they had blown a 2-0 lead at Sheffield Wednesday, finishing up clinging on to a 2-2 draw.

Norwich have been outstanding at home this season where they have not lost since November and experience in the likes of Shane Duffy, Kenny McLean, Ashley Barnes and one or two others will be critical.

And there is the promise of Swans’ boss Williams that he will try to blood a few more fringe players in their final two games, which could leave them vulnerable.

But this is all about occasion and price. The occasion is going to be tense and the price about a Norwich win in that context looks short enough.
