No team has scored more home goals in the Premier League than Eddie Howe's Newcastle

- 10 of Newcastle's 17 league victories have featured over 3.5 goals
- Brighton have lost all six away matches against teams in the top seven this season
- Recommended bet: Over 2.5 Newcastle goals

Newcastle have bounced back after a difficult winter and Eddie Howe's men are targeting a sixth win in eight Premier League matches when they take on Brighton.

The Magpies have a proud home record, winning 12 of their 18 league matches at St James' Park this season, and they put four goals past Burnley at Turf Moor last weekend.

Brighton beat Aston Villa 1-0 last time out but the injury-hit Seagulls have suffered heavy defeats to Arsenal, Manchester City and Bournemouth recently and lost 4-1 on last season's trip to Newcastle.

Team news

Newcastle are missing injured defenders Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles, Matt Targett and Sven Botman.

Midfielders Joe Willock and Lewis Miley are also sidelined and Sandro Tonali is suspended.

Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak could start up front while Kieran Trippier faces a fitness test and Miguel Almiron is pushing for a start.

Brighton's squad remains severely depleted as Adam Lallana has joined Solly March, Evan Ferguson, Jack Hinshelwood, Pervis Estupinan, Kaoru Mitoma, Tariq Lamptey, James Milner and Jan Paul van Hecke on the sidelines.

The stats

Newcastle have won five of their last seven Premier League matches.

Alexander Isak has scored 14 goals in 12 league starts at St James' Park this season.

Ten of Newcastle's 17 league victories have featured over 3.5 goals.

Brighton have lost all six of their away matches against teams in the top seven this season.

Both teams have scored in only one of the Seagulls' last six games.

Brighton have not scored a first-half goal in their last six matches.

Prediction

Brighton restricted Aston Villa to just two shots in last weekend's 1-0 win at the Amex Stadium but their defenders can expect a far tougher time against Newcastle.

The Seagulls had conceded 11 goals in their previous four games before shutting out a weary Villa side and they have lost all six of their away fixtures against teams in the top seven this term.

Those results include a 6-1 rout by Villa and a 3-2 loss at Chelsea so Newcastle's in-form forwards should relish a crack at the Brighton rearguard.

The Magpies are still missing several injured defenders but their attacking unit is in good shape, with strikers Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson both scoring in last weekend's 4-1 win at Burnley.

Miguel Almiron, Joelinton and Harvey Barnes were among the substitutes at Turf Moor and Newcastle, who have scored 25 goals in eight home league matches in 2024, are a tempting bet to put at least three goals past their inconsistent visitors.
