Maurizio Sarri's Lazio know that a win would put them on the verge of qualifying for the knockout stages

- Lazio have lost only one of their last 11 home games in Europe
- Celtic have conceded 16 goals on their last four Champions League trips, losing each
- Recommended bet: Lazio to win and both teams to score

Celtic’s hopes of European football after Christmas look slim as they have taken just one point from their first four games in this season's Champions League.

The other three sides are locked in a tight battle for the top two spots, meaning this is a must-win game for Lazio.

Team news

Lazio do have some defensive issues to contend with, as both Nicolo Casale and Alessio Romagnoli are missing through injury, forcing changes at the heart of their back four.

Celtic have a fairly lengthy injury list, with Daizen Maeda, Liel Abada, James McCarthy and Reo Hatate all sidelined for the trip to the Italian capital.

The stats

Brendan Rodgers's track record in the Champions League does not inspire much hope that Celtic can get a much-needed win

Lazio have conceded five times across their four group games in Europe this season.

The hosts have won four of their last five home matches.

Celtic have lost four of their last five Champions League games.

Brendan Rodgers has won one of his last 21 games in this competition, losing 14 times.

Rodgers has seen his side beaten in seven of his last eight Champions League matches.

Both teams have scored in 11 of Lazio’s last 12 matches in the Champions League.

Prediction

Lazio face their penultimate Champions League group game on Tuesday night, knowing it is a must-win occasion.

Sat second in Group E, they will hope to take advantage of the fact Feyenoord and Atletico Madrid meet in the pool’s other game.

A win for Lazio twinned with an Atletico victory would take those two sides into the last 16 with a game to spare.

Regardless of the result in Rotterdam, Lazio will want three points ahead of a visit to Madrid in their final game.

As for Celtic, they have picked up one point from four games and their record in this competition does not inspire hope of an upset.

The visitors have failed to win across their last 14 games in the competition, losing 11 times.

The return of Brendan Rodgers to the dugout has done little for their fortunes.

He has suffered 14 defeats across his last 21 Champions League matches, including seven defeats in his last eight.

With Lazio winning four of their last five at the Stadio Olimpico, they should boost their qualification hopes with a win on Tuesday.

However, the hosts will be troubled by their defensive injury issues, which could allow the visitors an opening.

With Lazio seeing both teams score in all but one of their last 12 Champions League games, expect the hosts to concede in a much-needed victory.
