Always believed

Erik ten Hag says it was a matter of time until Rasmus Hojlund broke his Premier League duck after the forward scored the winner in Manchester United's dramatic 3-2 victory over Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

The forward was yet to score in the top tier until Tuesday — but his manager kept the faith.

Ten Hag said: "Of course I've had several talks with him and every time I've pointed out he has scored for Denmark a lot, he has scored in the Champions League, he has demonstrated his ability so you can do it, believe.

"I'm sure now he has the first goal he will score more.

"When a striker doesn’t score it’s a problem but he has a strong character, he is so solid, determined. He has a big personality. I think this is what a striker needs.

"When you keep investing, the goals will come."

Main man Morris

Rob Edwards hailed "main man" Carlton Morris after the striker inspired Luton's 3-2 win at Sheffield United off the bench.

The striker also reported racist abuse from a Blades fan, which is now being investigated by South Yorkshire Police.

Morris has found himself out of the Hatters' starting XI recently due to the efforts of Elijah Adebayo but Edwards insists he remains a key figure.

The Town boss said: "He is a main man and he wants to play but he's been incredibly mature about it.

"He knows what I think of him.

"When he came on he said, 'Don’t worry, we'll get back in this'."

Mitoma out for a month

Kaoru Mitoma will be missing for a month after picking up an injury in the draw with Crystal Palace.

The winger has already been absent for spells of this season and is now set for another spell on the sidelines.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi said: "We have more or less ten injured players, maybe less, maybe eight, but two players can't start the game.

"We've lost Kaoru for around six weeks. Four, five, or six weeks. I don’t think he can play in the Asian Cup with Japan. Pervis Estupinan is available for the bench."

De Zerbi confirmed Simon Adinga is also set to be absent for a similar period time as Mitoma.

McKenna proud of Town

Kieran McKenna said a point was the least Ipswich deserved after they scored a late equaliser against Leicester in a huge clash at the top of the Championship.

Sam Morsy notched in the 93rd minute to deny the Foxes a win that would have seen them pull clear at the top of the league.

And the Town boss is adamant his side could even have won the game.

He said: "It was a game where we were good in most aspects.

"I thought we pressed really well against one of the best, if not the best, build-up teams in the league and limited them as well.

"I thought on the whole we did a lot more right than wrong for sure.

"Getting the goal at the end was what we deserved at the very least."

Wood chopped

Salford have sacked Head Coach Neil Wood after a run of eight league matches without a win.

City sit 21st in League Two having been expected to challenge for promotion this season and the club's high-profile owners, featuring Gary Neville, have taken action.

A club statement read: "Salford City Football Club announce the departure of Head Coach Neil Wood.

"The club would like to thank Neil for his hard work over the last 18 months, including leading the club to our highest-ever finish in Sky Bet League Two last season, and we wish him well in his future role within football.

"The process of appointing a new manager will commence immediately."

Scarlett recalled

Tottenham have recalled Dane Scarlett from his loan at Ipswich.

The striker made just 12 appearances for the Tractor Boys, not starting a single game.

And with Spurs suffering an injury crisis in attacking areas, he will add numbers to Ange Postecoglou's squad.
