Eric Dier has joined Bayern Munich on loan from Tottenham with an option for a permanent deal.

The England international, 29, featured in just four Premier League matches under Ange Postecoglou this season, with the Aussie boss preferring to use Emerson Royal as a makeshift centre-back.

Dier's move to the Bundesliga champions will see him reunite with ex-Spurs team-mate Harry Kane and he will be hoping to have a similar impact in Bavaria with Euro 2024 on the horizon.

He said: "This move is a dream come true for me because as a child you want to play for a club like Bayern one day.

"Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in the world and have an incredible history. I want to help the team with my versatility.

"I’m really looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and the fans at the Allianz Arena, which in my eyes is one of the best stadiums in the world."

Dier spent nine-and-a-half seasons at Tottenham, making 364 appearances in all competitions, and came off the bench in the 2019 Champions League final defeat to Liverpool.

In a message to the club on his departure, he promised to continue to support them from afar.

He said: "I want to say a massive thank you to everyone associated with Tottenham.

"All the staff at the training ground and at the stadium. The players, coaching staff, all the managers I've had along the way.

"My team-mates from my time here, I couldn't have asked for a better dressing room.

"And then obviously the fans, it's been a hell of a journey."

Dier operated in both defence and midfeld for Spurs but Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel confirmed he has been signed to play at the back.

Tuchel said: "He's a specialist at centre-back. He has also played as a No6 in the Premier League but not for a long time.

"We're getting him for the centre-back position, he can play right or left centre-back as well as in a back three."
