Manchester City vs Real Madrid predictions: City can triumph in thriller
- Both teams have scored in seven of Manchester City's last nine competitive games
- Manchester City are unbeaten at home since November 2022
- Recommended bet: Manchester City to win & both teams to score
Manchester City took charge of the Premier League title race at the weekend but now their attention turns towards defending their Champions League trophy when Real Madrid come to town.
The two played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in Madrid last week but Los Blancos have bad memories of their most recent visit to Manchester after being thrashed at the Etihad last term.
Team news
City's only potential issue is the doubtful John Stones, with Kyle Walker, Rodri, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva expected to return to the startling line-up after being rested at the weekend.
Real will be without the suspended Aurelien Tchouameni after the Frenchman picked up a booking in the first leg, while Thibaut Courtois and David Alaba are both still injured for Los Blancos with knee injuries.
There is also a doubt over Rodrygo, who suffered a knock in the weekend win over Mallorca and faces a late fitness test.
The stats
- Both teams have scored in seven of City's last nine competitive games
- The Citizens are unbeaten at home since November 2022
- Real have seen both teams score in four of their last five Champions League ties
- City are unbeaten in 16 Champions League home games, winning 15 of those fixtures
- Guardiola's side won the Champions League for the first time last season, while Real have lifted the trophy on a record 14 occasions
Prediction
A six-goal thriller in Madrid highlighted why these sides were two of the favourites for the Champions League this season but the advantage clearly lies with City as they look to assert their dominance on home soil.
Real lost 4-0 at the Etihad in last season's semi-finals after holding the soon-to-be champions to a draw at the Bernabeu and Pep Guardiola's side have gone on to win each of their four home games in this competition since.
City have conceded in three of these, though, and they are facing a Real side that have scored 21 goals in their nine Champions League assignments since that defeat in Manchester.
Guardiola's men are unbeaten at home since a November 2022 defeat to Brentford and they have won 37 of their 43 competitive home games since then.
Therefore, a home victory on Wednesday night looks to be on the cards, but a clean sheet could be beyond them.
Los Blancos have scored in 29 successive games in all competitions and City have conceded seven across their last four, so a home win but with the Galacticos finding the net looks a real possibility.
