Watford manager Valerien Ismael won't have given up hopes of reaching the play-offs just yet

- Watford have won all four of their clashes with sides in the bottom three this season
- Sheffield Wednesday have lost four of their last six league games
- Recommended bet: Watford to win and both teams to score

Both of these sides face FA Cup replays after drawing 1-1 in the fourth round at the weekend, but can either return to winning ways in the Championship?

The pair are seen as neck-and-neck both priced at 31/20 for a victory in this midweek tussle but with Watford in fine scoring form, they look good to edge this contest.

Team news

Emmanuel Dennis has returned for a second spell at Watford and could feature at Hillsborough

Sheffield Wednesday head into this clash without Callum Paterson and Dominic Iorfa. Goalkeeper James Beadle was ineligible for the cup at the weekend but he returns for this fixture.

Watford are hopeful that they can hand a second debut to Emmanuel Dennis after he returned to the club on loan from Nottingham Forest. However, the Hornets will be without Ken Sema, Jeremy Ngakia and Edo Kayembe.

The stats

Sheffield Wednesday have lost seven of their 14 home games in the Championship this term.

Only QPR have fewer home points than the Owls in the league this season.

Watford have scored twice or more in five of their last six away games.

Both teams have scored in each of Watford’s last 13 matches.

Wednesday have scored in eight straight home games.

Only five Championship sides have conceded more goals than the Owls this term.

Prediction

Watford head to Hillsborough on Wednesday having scored twice or more in five of their last six away trips. The Hornets will be hoping Dennis can add an extra threat to their attack, although they arguably have more worries at the back.

Watford come into this game with both teams scoring in each of their last 13 matches, while the Hornets have kept only two away clean sheets all season.

With Sheffield Wednesday scoring in eight straight home games, the Owls should expect to get on the scoresheet on Wednesday. However, the second-bottom hosts are likely to struggle to take anything away from this encounter.

The Owls have one of the worst home records in the league, suffering seven defeats so far this term. The hosts have been beaten in two of their last three home matches in the Championship, while they meet a Watford side who have won all four clashes with the current bottom three this term.

The Hornets look likely to fall just short of the play-offs this term but they are more than good enough to pick off one of the league’s worst teams.

Only the top three have secured more away points than Watford so far this season. However, defensive concerns show no sign of easing for the visitors, so back Watford to win and both teams to score.
