Scotland vs Georgia predictions: Hosts hoping to extend winning streak

Scotland have been faultless in Euro 2024 qualification Group A with three wins in three games and they will be aiming to maintain their perfect record by defeating second-placed Georgia at Hampden Park.

When the draw for Euro 2024 qualifying was made few people would have expected Scotland and Georgia to make the early running in their section.

But the Scots are on nine points after Saturday's come-from-behind 2-1 success away to Norway, and Georgia are their closest challengers after collecting four points from two games.

Scotland may already fancy their chances of qualifying for a second successive European Championships, but Georgia will probably be more circumspect as they strive to reach a major tournament for the first time in their history.

Scotland manager Steve Clarke may be tempted to persist with an unchanged starting eleven after watching his team triumph 2-1 away to Norway on Saturday.

Rangers' defender John Souttar shook off an injury to return to training last week but he faces a struggle to force his way into the team.

Ryan Porteous is on two yellow cards and will incur a suspension if he receives another caution.

Georgia may have to make a change in defence after Luka Lochoshvili appeared to sustain an injury towards the end of their 2-1 success away to Cyprus.

Scotland have made more progress than most towards earning a place at Euro 2024 and can make it four wins from four by defeating Georgia in Glasgow.

It would be fair to say that Scotland's 2-1 triumph away to Norway on Saturday was the least convincing of their successes.

They were second best for long periods and, after falling behind to Erling Haaland's 61st minute penalty, it seemed that a setback was on the cards.

However, Steve Clarke's side are not used to losing games and they kept on pushing until late goals from Lyndon Dykes and Kenny McLean turned the match in their favour.

There were wild celebrations after the final whistle and the obvious challenge for Clarke is to bring his players back down to earth.

Georgia have been a progressive team over the last five years — climbing from the fourth to the second tiers in the Nations League — and they head to Hampden unbeaten in their last 10 competitive internationals.

However, they required an 84th minute goal from Zuriko Davitashvili to clinch a 2-1 success at Group A basement team Cyprus on Saturday and would probably need to perform better if they are to put another point or three on the board.

Scotland have conceded just one goal across their three matches and their disciplined defence could hold the key to securing a low-scoring success.
