Gareth Taylor has signed a new deal with Manchester City which keeps him at the club until 2027.

Taylor, 51, took over the Citizens in May 2020 and has the chance to win his first Women's Super League title this season after an impressive 2023-24 campaign so far.

City are currently enjoying a 12-match winning run in all competitions and are level on points with leaders and defending champions Chelsea at the top of the WSL table.

He told the club's official site: "I'm very happy to be able to commit to City for another three seasons.

"I think what we're doing here and trying to achieve is a build and a long-term project of sustainability and success.

"Our ambition was always to be right at the top and we've done that.

"It's taken a lot of hard work from a lot of people behind the scenes. The players have really bought into what we're trying to do and achieve."

Hopes of City's first WSL title since 2016 have been bolstered by their excellent recent form, which has included statement wins over title rivals Chelsea and Arsenal.

Taylor's side currently boast the best defensive record in England's top flight, impressively shipping just nine goals in their 15 league games to date.

He has lifted both the Women's FA Cup and Conti Cup during his tenure so far and remains in the hunt for further success in both competitions this term.

Director of football Nils Nielsen added: "I am very pleased that Gareth has agreed to continue his great work in our programme for the coming years.

"We have a clear strategy on how we want to move forward and securing Gareth to lead the team is a key factor in this.

"Now we can all focus on finishing this season in style and prepare for the next few seasons by following the plan."
