Old rivals Luton and Watford renew hostilities in an early Championship kick-off on Saturday which should be a spicy affair.

Luton need a rewire after the international break following a poor start to the season while Watford's poor away form is costing them ground in a promotion fight they will feel they are very much a part of.

Team news

Centre-back Mark McGuinness is Luton's latest injury concern after pulling out of Ireland's double header.

However, Mads Andersen, Tahith Chong and Carlton Morris, who all missed the 2-0 defeat at Sheffield United, should be fit.

For Watford, keeper Dan Bachmann is fit again though defenders Francisco Sierralta and Kevin Keben remain sidelined. Jeremy Ngakia is back.

The stats

Rob Edwards' Luton have struggled for goals this season
Rob Edwards' Luton have struggled for goals this season

Luton have won only three home games in 2024 and have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last 13 matches at Kenilworth Road.

Rob Edwards' men have scored only eight goals in nine league matches. Only Cardiff have bagged fewer.

Watford have lost four consecutive away games, three in the Championship and also 2-1 at Manchester City in the League Cup.

The Hornets have already gained seven points from losing positions this season.

Nine of Watford's 12 games this season have produced three goals or more.

Prediction

Luton will be praying that the international break has given them time to start again after a disappointing start to the season, though they come back with a tough assignment.

Local rivals Watford are going well and after beating both Sunderland and Middlesbrough before the break they will feel they can beat anybody.

Against that, both those wins were at Vicarage Road and their away form is not good, while Luton are getting players back as they seek to snap a three-game winless streak.

However, on current form the Hatters look a fragile odds-on shot, especially against a team like Watford which is packed with goals.

The Hornets with the safety valve of the Draw No Bet looks like a positive play.
