Lauren Hemp admitted her sensational scorpion kick against Leicester was unintentional as Manchester City claimed an eighth consecutive victory.

The Citizens left it late to secure the 2-0 win over the Foxes in the Women's Super League, with Hemp's acrobatic volley squeezing past Lize Kop to break the deadlock in the 82nd minute.

Three minutes later, Chloe Kelly scored direct from a corner to secure the points and keep Gareth Taylor's side's WSL title bid on track.

Speaking about her goal to City's website, Hemp, 23, said: "I just didn't really want to use my right foot to be honest!

"I don't know I think it hit around here [my calf] but whatever it was it trickled in. A goal's a goal!"

Kelly's effort set pulses similarly racing at the Joie Stadium, with her corner looping over Kop and straight in at the back post.

On her Lionesses team-mate's game-sealing goal, Hemp joked: "She's trying to take my limelight isn’t she?!.

"The type of ball we wanted into the box was one to the back post and she managed to do that without anyone getting their head on it.

"It was a cracking finish and not the first time she's done something like that. It relaxed our nerves a bit which was important."

City went top of the WSL prior to Chelsea's clash with Everton later on Sunday, with Taylor's team in phenomenal form of late.

The winger, who has seven goals and five assists this term, said: "We're really confident, it's been a heavy few weeks.

"We've got good vibes in training and everyone's spirits are really high."

City face Tottenham in the Conti Cup and then Arsenal in the Women's FA Cup ahead of a potential title decider against defending champions Chelsea on February 16.
