Arc must be the aim for Adayar

Jockey William Buick believes a tilt at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe should be next on the agenda for King George hero Adayar. 

Charlie Appleby's Epsom Derby winner became the first horse to do that double since the great Galileo in 2001 after an excellent run in the prestigious Ascot sprint. 

The three-year-old finished one and three-quarter lengths clear of John Gosden's Mishriff, with pre-race favourite Love only third. 

It has been a great year for Appleby and Buick, adding to the success of Hurricane Lane in the Irish Derby and Grand Prix de Paris - and Buick reckons a run at Longchamp could be on the cards. 

He said: "We'll enjoy this and speak to Charlie and see what's best for the horse. 

"It was an amazing performance. He looked very good at Epsom and he's confirmed that against older horses. 

"I would say one eye would be on the Arc, for sure." 

Menuisier looking ahead to Goodwood

Trainer David Menuisier says he could not risk Wonderful Tonight in the King George due to unsuitable conditions. 

The four-year-old was primed for a run in the King George Stakes, returning to Ascot a month after winning the Hardwicke Stakes at the royal meeting. 

The Frenchman was hoping for some rain, given his horse usually trains on soft ground, but it did not come and Menuisier decided to pull her out and look ahead to the future. 

A run at Goodwood in the Group Two Langtry Stakes is her next destination, with Menuisier prioritising her welfare. 

He said: "When you train a soft-ground horse you always need a bit of luck with races in the middle of the summer. 

"She's the filly of a lifetime with big targets in the autumn, so we've got to do right by her." 

Stradivarius heads Goodwood Cup Stakes entry list

John Gosden's Stradivarius is the headline act in Tuesday's Goodwood Cup Stakes on the first day of Glorious Goodwood. 

The seven-year-old will be eyeing redemption following his Gold Cup defeat at Royal Ascot last month. 

Subjectivist took the win that day, with Frankie Dettori only able to steer Stradivarius home in fourth. 

But he has won each of the last four Goodwood Cup Stakes races and is favourite to extend that record to five. 

Rivals include Alan King's Trueshan and Andre Balding's Spanish Mission. 

The former will be ridden by Hollie Doyle and has won at Group Two level at Ascot before, while the latter finished sixth in the two-mile contest last year and won the Yorkshire Cup in May. 

Primo Bacio set for Deauville run

Primo Bacio will aim to end his Group One duck when he runs in the Prix Rothschild at Deauville on August 3rd. 

The filly was victorious at York in a Listed race in May but could only finish fifth behind Snow Lantern at the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket. 

Trainer Ed Walker is confident she can run well, given her rivals will be racing at Goodwood instead. 

He said: "She goes for the Prix Rothschild at Deauville.

"She had no luck in the Falmouth. There were two things really, she was a little bit unlucky and she was also very fresh having not run for two months because she missed Ascot. 

"Andrea Atzeni is going to go and ride her. With Alcohol Free and Snow Lantern both going to Goodwood, hopefully she'll have a good chance."
