Arshdeep Singh can lead the way for India in New York's seam-friendly conditions against arch rivals Pakistan

- India have won nine of their 12 T20 international matches against Pakistan
- Pakistan wicketkeeper Azam Khan has made three ducks in his last six T20 innings
- Recommended bet: Arshdeep Singh Top India Wicket Taker

India won a thrilling T20 World Cup clash with Pakistan in October 2022, when Virat Kohli's unbeaten 82 powered them to a four-wicket victory in Melbourne, and the rivals are set for another fascinating clash on Sunday.

Pakistan are already under pressure at this year's tournament, having suffered a shock Super Over defeat to the USA in their opening Group A match.

Their batsmen may not be looking forward to a trip to the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, where trophy favourites India bowled out Ireland for just 96 on their way to an eight-wicket win on Wednesday.

Team news

India have a fitness doubt over captain Rohit Sharma, who retired hurt after being struck on the arm during his half-century against Ireland. If Rohit is ruled out, Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to open the batting with Virat Kohli.

Pakistan's spinning all-rounder Imad Wasim missed the defeat to the USA with a side strain. He will be assessed although captain Babar Azam is likely to opt for four specialist fast bowlers given the pace-friendly pitches in New York.

The stats

Virat Kohli, the leading runscorer in this year's Indian Premier League, has a tremendous recent record against Pakistan
Virat Kohli, the leading runscorer in this year's Indian Premier League, has a tremendous recent record against Pakistan

India have won nine of their 12 T20 international matches against Pakistan.

Virat Kohli's last six T20 scores against Pakistan were 49, 55 not out, 57, 35, 60 and 82 not out.

India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah conceded only six runs in three overs against Ireland, taking two wickets.

Pakistan have lost their first wicket with the score at seven, six, 16, 59 and nine in their last five T20 matches

Wicketkeeper Azam Khan has made three ducks in his last six T20 innings for Pakistan.

Pakistan have lost 16 of their last 25 T20 internationals.

Prediction

Playing T20 World Cup matches in the USA was always going to be a step into the unknown and the drop-in pitches in New York are proving particularly challenging for batsmen.

South Africa bowled out Sri Lanka for just 77 in the opening game at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium and Ireland were rolled over for 96 by India on Wednesday.

Even that meagre total was something of a bonus for the Irish, who had been reduced to 50-8 by the Indian fast bowlers.

Left-armer Arshdeep Singh dismissed both openers inside the first three overs and he could have similar success against Pakistan's top two Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam.

Both are prolific T20 runscorers but they will be conscious of the need for a quick start after Pakistan's loss to the USA and Arshdeep has the skill to take advantage with the new ball.

There has been prodigious seam movement and uneven bounce in the first two matches in New York and Arshdeep, who took 2-12 in three overs in the warm-up win over Bangladesh at the same venue, should pose a major threat in Sunday's showdown.
