- Virat Kohli has scored 14 half-centuries in 25 innings at T20 World Cups
- Paul Stirling has been dismissed for a record 13 ducks in T20 internationals
- Recommended bet: Paul Stirling to score under 18.5 runs

India have underperformed at T20 World Cups since winning the inaugural tournament in 2007, but expectations are high for Rohit Sharma's men in 2024.

They won their first 10 matches at last year's home ODI World Cup before a shock defeat to Australia in the final and are hot favourites to extend their T20 winning streak against Ireland to eight matches.

The Irish competed well in May's 2-1 home series defeat to Pakistan, but their batters face a tough test at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, where Sri Lanka were bowled out for 77 by South Africa on Monday.

Team news

India have four specialist spinners in their squad and Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav are expected to get the nod over Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel.

Virat Kohli, who had a prolific IPL season opening the batting for RCB, is likely to come in at number three, with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top of the order.

Ireland's Josh Little, played for Gujarat Titans in the 2024 IPL, should share the new ball with Mark Adair. Leg-spinner Ben White is hoping to feature after bowling well in last week's warm-up defeat to Sri Lanka.

The stats

India have won all seven of their T20 international meetings with Ireland.

Virat Kohli has scored 14 half-centuries in 25 innings at T20 World Cups, but India have reached only one T20 World Cup final since winning the inaugural tournament in 2007.

Ireland captain Paul Stirling has been dismissed for a record 13 ducks in T20 internationals.

Ireland's Andy Balbirnie has hit 11 sixes in his last three T20 innings against India, while fast bowler Josh Little has taken 10 wickets in his last four competitive T20 appearances.

Prediction

New York's first 2024 T20 World Cup fixture produced a match total of 157 runs and 14 wickets as South Africa completed a six-wicket win over Sri Lanka on Monday.

India gained some valuable experience of conditions at the Nassau County Stadium on Saturday, when they restricted Bangladesh to 122-9 to seal a 60-run warm-up win.

The Tigers' run-chase was derailed in the first four overs as India fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj reduced them to 10-3.

Quinton de Kock's 20 was the highest individual score in Monday's match in New York, so backing Ireland opener Paul Stirling to score under 18.5 runs looks a solid bet.

The Irish captain made 14, 10 and six in December's series against Zimbabwe, while he scored eight and 11 in two knocks against Pakistan last month.

In six T20 internationals against India Stirling has been dismissed for one, nought, four, 40, 11 and nought and that lean run may well continue on Wednesday.
